Firefighters put out small fire on third floor of the Copley Square Hotel; no injuries reported
Workers operating a grinding machine inside the Copley Square Hotel apparently caused a smoky fire in a window frame this afternoon, officials said. The fire was quickly extinguished and the hotel was not evacuated. No injuries were reported.
Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald said the department was alerted to the smoke condition on the third floor of the hotel around 12:55 p.m. He said firefighters left about 45 minutes later after quickly putting out the fire.
He said workers on the third floor were operating a grinding machine as part of work being done to the hotel, a process that generated enough heat to ignite the frame around a third-floor window.
