Democratic hopefuls for Senate schedule first televised debate for March 27
The two Democratic primary contenders for the US Senate special election will face off March 27 in their first primary debate, planned by the Boston Media Consortium, a group of TV and radio networks.
US Representatives Stephen F. Lynch and Edward J. Markey agreed to the debate, one of six they plan before the April 30 primary election.
The consortium is awaiting responses about a debate invitation extended to the three Republicans in the race.
The debate will be produced at WCVB-TV’s studios in Needham and air live at 7 p.m. The consortium also includes WGBH-TV, NECN, WCVB-TV, WGBH Radio, WBUR Radio, and Bloomberg Radio.
The Republicans vying for nomination include Gabriel E. Gomez , a Cohasset private equity investor; former US Attorney Michael J. Sullivan and State Representative Daniel B. Winslow , a Norfolk Republican.
Winslow has proposed nine debates between the GOP contenders, though no schedule has been finalized. The Republicans’ first forum is planned on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Stonehill College in Easton, to be live-streamed on the website of WCVB-TV.
