Ibragim Todashev, the man shot to death in Florida by authorities investigating the Boston Marathon bombings, fought as a lightweight in the mixed martial arts sport in Florida and was quick to fight with others he disagreed with, according to public records and some who knew him. On May 4, Todashev was arrested in Orlando after a heated dispute over a mall parking space with a father and his adult son that ended with the son lying in a pool of blood, his teeth loosened by the blows Todashev delivered, according to a police report.

The FBI identified the person shot and killed as Ibragim Todashev, 27. The Waltham victims had their throats slashed and marijuana sprinkled over their bodies when they were killed on Sept. 11, 2011.

Both animals appeared to be black bears, which are known to travel long distances, she said.

Roslindale woman bitten in hand as she breaks up fight between two pit bulls

A woman was taken to Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital today after being bitten in the hand by a pit bull while she was trying to break up a fight between it and another dog, police said. A 52-year-old woman called animal control officers to her Ridge Street apartment in Roslindale around 8:30 a.m., police said. She requested that the dog that bit her be removed, and animal control officers took custody of the 5-year-old pit bull, police said. There was no further information on the severity of her injuries.

Rambling bear causes stir in Lincoln, Weston

Police are urging residents to keep an eye out a black bear in Lincoln after one was sighted Sunday afternoon. The black bear was reported in the area of Route 117 and Route 126, and officials believe the bear was likely looking for food. This morning, Weston police also received reports of a medium-size black bear, over 100 pounds, in the northern part of town, Weston Police Lieutenant John Lyons said. A New York man was arraigned today on charges of sexually abusing several boys while he was the swim coach at a Boys & Girls club in Arlington during the late 1970s. Paul Collins, 62, who was arrested Friday in his Long Island home, pleaded not guilty, and was ordered held on $250,000 bail. Prosecutors said Collins has admitted to sexual contact with two accusers and told investigators he may have had contact with the other two as well.

Scott Bartelson, a passenger on the Connecticut commuter train that derailed Friday night, was making his familiar daily commute to his hometown of Stratford, Conn. when chaos erupted. “Right as the conductor was taking my ticket, the train went right off the tracks,” said Bartelson, who estimated the train was traveling 40 to 50 miles per hour. “It started tipping to one side, constantly bumping up and down and back and forth like crazy. I saw sparks right outside my window.”
