For the first time, MIT has taken the top spot in the QS World University Rankings, published today. Cambridge University, which topped the list last year, ranked second in this year’s tally, which takes into account number of academic citations, student-to-faculty ratios, student rankings, and other factors.
According to the Guardian, strong showings in academic citations and a marked increase in foreign academics helped propel the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to the top.
Harvard ranked third in the list.
