Cambridge networking start-up Plexxi unveils first products

Before covering start-ups, I covered networking gear, and one of the last companies I wrote about was Plexxi, a stealth-ish start-up that was working on some interesting network virtualization hardware and software.

Today, they’ve officially unveiled their first two products, a controller and a switch.

IT gear isn’t the sexiest part of the region’s innovation economy, but it has long been an important part of it: The 128 Corridor, so important to building a strong technological base for the state’s economy, boasted companies like Digital Equipment Corporation, Data General and EMC Corporation.

Companies like Plexxi, if they’re succesful in entering a market dominated by West Coast companies like Cisco and Juniper, could bring some of that magic back.
