DrinkSavvy

The Daily Dose clued me in to a new innovation that could help prevent assaults and keep people safer: Straws and drinkware that change color in the presence of common date rape drugs.

DrinkSavvy founder Mike Abramson wrote that he started looking into the idea after he and three of his close friends were drugged, and now he’s taking the idea to Indiegogo to help move the product into mass production.

Already, the novel idea has won some fans. NECN’s Bridget Blyth called it a “great idea,” and Trendhunter praised its “ingenious design.”

Abramson, an intellectual property attorney and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) alumnus, won his alma maters’ 2012 Kalenian Award, which granted him $12,500 to continue developing the idea.
