Logan International Airport set passenger record in 2012
A record-high 29.3 million passengers traveled through Logan International Airport last year, a 1.4 percent increase over the previous high, set in 2011, the Massachusetts Port Authority reported Thursday.
Massport, which runs Logan, celebrated the record in late December when it recognized a geologist from Maine as the 29 millionth traveler to pass through the airport last year.
Most of the passenger growth was in the international market, which was up nearly 10 percent over the year before; domestic travel was basically flat.
Logan added a popular daily nonstop flight to Tokyo last year on Japan Airlines, although the total number of flights in and out of the airport dropped by nearly 4 percent.
The number of cruise passengers also hit a record high last year, with 380,000 passengers.
