Monster.com poll: Sorry, boss, you don’t get my vote
It’s a good thing that most bosses aren’t politicians --- because if bosses were up for re-election, their employees would vote nearly three-quarters of them out of office.
The message from the cubicles: Boss, it’s time for you to pursue other opportunities ... and spend more time with your family.
So suggests a poll by Monster.com, a website where employers can recruit new employees and where workers can find new jobs. Monster has much of its operations in Maynard.
The poll asked people who visited Monster’s website during a two-week period in August to participate in the survey. Just over 2,400 visitors opted to take part in the poll about how they would rate their bosses.
According to Monster.com, nearly a third of respondents said they would vote themselves into their manager’s position if they had the chance, and one in four said they would vote for another colleague who they think would be better qualified in the role than the current boss. Roughly one in five respondents said they would eschew those options and hope for a new candidate to enter the race.
“The fact we see such a large percentage of people who would vote themselves into their boss’s position shows many workers have confidence and drive, which is ultimately good for any organization,” Mary Ellen Slayter, Monster.com’s career expert, said in a statement. “However, workers who wouldn’t support their current manager should consider whether or not they are in a nurturing environment that supports their professional development and career progression. If people don’t feel confident with their current leadership, they should consider alternatives, such as moving to a new group within their organization where managers have a good reputation for their leadership qualities, and failing that, explore better opportunities elsewhere outside the company.”
