A Lynn lumber yard that had been in business nearly 70 years has closed for good.
A sign on the locked gates of Lynn Lumber on Tuesday said the business was closed and thanked customers.
The company was founded in 1945 and was still run by the third generation of the same family.
The current owner, Richard Kessel, could not be reached. The company touted itself as ‘‘Boston’s leading purveyor of fine architectural millwork’’ on its website.
City Councilor Peter Capano tells The Daily Item (http://bit.ly/VvAiEj ) that the closure is ‘‘terrible news.’’ He said the business was a fixture in his neighborhood and his own father used to visit weekly.
