About 20,000 still without power
About 20,000 Massachusetts customers were still without power at 6 p.m Tuesday, down from a peak of more than 420,000 after the powerful snowstorm that hit the state over the weekend.
National Grid had roughly 4,000 customers still without power, down from a peak of about 170,200, and said it still expects to restore power to nearly all remaining customers by midnight.
“We’re on track to meet our deadline with the vast majority of customers,” said spokeswoman Deborah Drew said via email. “In every storm, there are what we call ‘scattered outages’ usually in the very hardest hit areas. We may have some of that along with additional items that will require clean up.”
NStar, meanwhile, had about 16,000 customers without power, down from a peak of about 250,000. NStar said most of those customers will have electricity by Wednesday and power will be restored to those remaining by Thursday.
“We will continue this all-out effort until all remaining customers have power restored,” Craig Hallstrom, president of NStar Electric, said in a statement.
The outages are concentrated on the South Shore, Southeastern Massachusetts, and Cape Cod.
