With parking at a premium at Logan International Airport, the Massachusetts Port Authority on Thursday will stop charging children 17 and under to ride Logan Express in an effort to encourage families to park at the suburban Logan Express lots -- just in time for February school vacation week.

The current cost is $22 round-trip for those 12 and older to ride the Logan Express bus from Woburn, Framingham, Braintree, and Peabody.

Children must be accompanied by an adult to get the free fare.

Massport is also offering a $22 rate for up to 14 days of Logan Express parking between Feb. 14 and Feb. 26. The rate is usually $7 per day.

Last year, Logan’s on-site parking lots exceeded capacity on 40 days; the airport authority is currently exploring solutions for its parking crunch.
