Shorter Brown & Warren: Only we can speak
They are really going through with this, aren't they?
After days of highly publicized negotiations Scott Brown and Elizabeth Warren signed an agreement that they hope will limit the numbers of voices that can participate in their battle for the US Senate. Neither side really put forth valid reasons why outside groups should not be allowed to comment on the race other than more voices would cause "interference" with their campaigns. At its core this agreement instructs us that to improve our political discourse to an appropriate level of honesty we need to limit the number of participants.
Hogwash.
It is disappointing that such a high profile and obscene stunt like this is being attempted in our great commonwealth. We pride ourselves, at least I think we do, in having diverse opinions and allowing as many voices as possible in our discourse. This agreement spits in the face of that long Massachusetts tradition.
