    Anthemic Rock

What are some of the great Anthem songs of the last 50 years?

We know how "We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions" have become staples at sports venues long after they were fist raising anthems in the rock venues. What other songs do you add to the list.

My first is by one of my least favorite bands:

    KISS - Detroit Rock City

    song 2 - blur

possibly their worst song, also.  i mean, it's groovy and all, but blur is an amazing band.  one of the only bands i would recommend a "greatest hits" album to introduce to a first time listener.

never quite got their due over here in the states, but huge overseas

The best Canadian anthem song ever: 'Takin' Care of Business' by BTO.  I saw them play this live recently and we were all on our feet singing it.

Yeah - but I'm Sicilian and I am. And we always keep the bets we lose.

But really, what were you looking at?

What's funny to me is the obvious influences on glam rock, their immediate successors...

...and the fact that they're so often used to support huge, organized matches of physical prowess and hyper-masculinity.

The irony flows like so much water....

Insofar as Bruce has gotten a little confused as to the marketing of Born in the USA while he was channeling Pete Seeger, that song was certainly an anthem -- misinformed as it was -- for its time.
