Does anybody remember a guy named Donnie Iris?

You may know the killer song that was a big hit back in 1980....'Ah, Leah.'

But , I learned a few interesting facts about this guy who looked somewhat like a cross between Elvis Costello and Weird Al Yankovic.

He was a member of the band the Jaggerz in the early 1970's and wrote their big hit "The Rapper." The song still gets played from time to time , it's a classic!

He toured with a band called Wild Cherry , known for a (not so awesome) single hit song that you might be familiar with...'Play that Funky Music.'

I have his first two solo LPs and I think they are really great. I especially like the song 'King Cool.'

Youngstown, Ohio has even got a beer named after him....'King Cool Light.'

If you've only heard the song 'Ah. Leah' , you are really missing a great slice of early 80's Rock/Power Pop. I am not sure about the rest of his catalogue, most likely out of print, but 'Back On The Streets' and 'King Cool' are two CDs I treasure and pull out often.
