    Re: December 2013

Good morning, Merry Christmas Eve Day!

I was up and out and up to Market Basket before 8:00 this morning to pick up my turkey dinner fixings.  Able to get some nice looking pkgs of precut mixed fruit for a fruit bowl too.

They put the box in my trunk for me, but once I got home - - Oh well, says, I, won't be the first turkey and fixings I've lugged myself.  What a nice job they do packing everything up.  All put away in the fridge now, and I just finished breaking up the saltine candy.  Not a lot to do today, except setting up table etc.

Kargiver, I am so sorry to hear what you are still going through.  Hopefully you'll have an answer and some marked improvement.  Thinking of you, and keep looking to see if there's a post from you.

Pingo, sounds like you are having a wonderful time, different activities than here, and a nice change of pace.  Glad you were able to connect with your other son and learn that he is also having a merry time.

Hats, look forward to seeing this little guy.

Winter, hope your Christmas goes as planned and is a merry one for all.  Funny story about the muffins - I planned on baking them at 350 for between 20-30 minutes, watching carefully.  I smelled them before I realized that I had not turned the oven down from the scones that had been baked before at 425!  Went out and gave it the old finger test, but it didn't spring back.  Poked with a tester and it was a little wet - 20 minutes had gone by on the timer.  Pushed the temp down to 350 and only left them in another 3 minutes.  Had one for supper last night and they are fine.  Not dry, not wet.  My guess, what I had planned, would be 350 for 25 minutes, testing first after 20 minutes.

Princess and Icer hope you both have a merry Christmas.  I know this sudden death in your circle will cast heartache on your festivities, Icer.  Little Zach is there to brighten up your spirits, especially on Christmas morning.  Princess, hoping for a healthier year for you.

Me?  I'm grateful that I can still manage to get my 4 boys and families together in one place for a couple of hours, once a year.  Grateful for conversations we have here on Chat.  Grateful for improved health compared to last Christmas when I was so sick.  Grateful for friends like Nanny friend who just interrupted my typing to ask if she could come up this afternoon. Oh, and yes, she reminds me, grateful for my little Cheerio, my constant companion!  She's sitting at my feet purring, but I realize it's not a purr of love of me, but of the powdered sugar donut I'm eating!  -  Merry Christmas, Cheerio, here you go - - -

Hi everybody! I haven't been posting in such a long time. I have been catching up lately though. I lost my mother and two brothers within the last year. I had a medical issue that has resolved, and I'm feeling well now. I want to wish all of you the best for the holidays, and a blessed New Year in 2014. The picture above is Stitches, not as clear as I hoped. D.h, D.D. and I are going to midnight Mass, coming back home and opening presents. I'll be checking in soon, and again have a wonderful time with your families tomorrow. I've come to realize that although decorations and presents are festive, it's really being with loved ones around the dinner table that I remember. Beastsgirl

Oh, bg, so many losses of loved ones in such a short time.  I'm so glad you have decided to post again here.  You're right, it's all in being together - presents, food, decorations - they're just trimmings that are nice to have, but not what gives us the warm feeling of Christmas.  Haven't been to a "midnight mass" in years.  Hope the coming year is one of health for you and all of your family, including that little Snickerdoodle under the tree!  I think it's a great picture.  Cheerio, ever the vamp, agrees.

Hi T.t.! Yes that is our "precious"(as D.D.calls him) Stitches, who has been much tamer lately. He's on a neverending watch, running from window to window to scare the birds on our deck and tree right outside the living room. It's very entertaining to watch. Kar, in going back to read the past couple of months of C.C., you have been sick for quite a while now. Please know my thoughts are with you. Icer, I'm so sorry about your loss. We owe those guys so much for their dedication, loyalty, and bravery. Such a difficult time for his loved ones. Beastsgirl

Merry Christmas all!!! It has been most somber indeed here...The news has had the details on so you all probably know who I'm talking about now....Tears and t.v, crews....Last night...at our local American Legion hall...there were t.v crews in front of our veteran's wall...also last night...Danny's body is home already...also last night...the highway dept ran street sweepers...posiibly because there is a crowd coming...

Honey and I live near the funeral home to be used by the family and our policeman friends all say they have been asked to serve...there is a group of people that like to protest at these events....they will be kept at bay...

Other than that...Honey and I are on the couch...We will see everyone later today

Merry Christmas to all...andto all a good day

    Merry Christmas to everyone.

Icer, so sorry to hear you lost a town son. And for such an unnesserary reason. Many American parents will mourn this Christmas having lost their loved ones to this terrible war, that seems to have no end.

BG, so nice to see a post from you. So sorry to hear about all your losses this past year. Hope you will continue to drop in now and then. Hope you will have a nice Christmas, despite all the sadness in your family. Stitches is cute.

tt, your party must be over by now. Hope it went well, and that Santa was good to you.

Kargiver, we haven't heard from you. We are worried about you. Hope you didn't have to spend Christmas at a hospital or ER. My good thoughts and prayers continue going your way.

had a nice Christmas Eve. Now getting ready to go to DIL's parents for turkey dinner. DIL's mother doesn't cook. So her sister is making the turkey and the stuffing, and we have made the dessert, rolls and the veggies. Strange set-up, bu it has always been that way.

    Blessings!

good to have you back, bg, sorry for your losses

icer, sorry, too, for your town's loss of such a young soldier

I've been still very sick and spent yesterday getting tests.  No diagnosis yet, very frustrating yet good to not have a brain tumor.

Eta: evenings are best for me.  Mornings very bad.

    Re: December 2013

Good morning!  Hope everyone had a nice Christmas.  Icer, Beast, Kar, sorry to hear about the sadness/sickness

Christmas was . . well, not all that nice for us.  I worked most of the day on Christmas Eve, and the plan was for us to get Chinese food and also food from a local Italian place in my town.  I had called the Italian place the week prior to see what they needed for a lead time for our order, as we were just getting some individual dinners rather than trays.  They said they would be open until 6pm on Christmas Eve and for such a small order I didn't need to pre-order.  You can see where this story is going - I started trying to call them at 3pm, but their line was busy.  Finally, at about 3:45 DH went down there and the place was swamped and they told him they got too overwhelmed and are no longer taking orders!  This is a very popular, well established restaurant!

Anyway, of course we bumped up the Chinese food quantity, but the only problem is with my gastro issue I cannot eat ANY Chinese food.  So, I ended up with a fast-food restaurant salad for my Christmas Eve dinner.  Oh well.

Christmas morning was very nice with DH and I, and when MIL woke up she came down and joined us.  DH and I then went to my brother's for breakfast, which was very nice.  We were leaving to go stop by my mom's quick and DH said he felt weird.  Well, as soon as we got to my mother's he began getting violently ill!  I had to get him home, but he was so weak I had to try to hold him up.  I got him home and into bed (this is about noon time yesterday) and he has been there ever since.  I have never seen him this sick, poor guy.  We think it's probably (hopefully) just a 24 bug but he does have body aches, fever, etc. so I hope it's not the flu or anything.

We were supposed to go to my BILs for Christmas dinner, but obviously didn't make it.  I would have gone alone, but I really didn't want to leave DH.  So, for Christmas dinner I ended up eating some frozen broccoli.  lol.

The best part, however, was Christmas Eve & Day when Spencer was INUNDATED with many new toys.  He was a riot just going from one to the other with a literal smile on his face, so happy.  I can only imagine the joys parents feel when kids open their Christmas presents!

Bottom line though, I did get to see all my family (both mine and DH's) and that's what matters.    So, back to work today.

Hope everyone had a wonderful day, and I look forward to reading about them.

    Good morning,

Princess!  What a couple of days you had!  How is your husband this morning?  I don't know how you are going to avoid coming down with the same thing - but please try.  Don't want to totally wipe you out too.

Kargiver, hopefully this last batch of tests will put a definite diagnosis on just what is going on.  I don't want to offend you, but I will risk it in asking if you have told them about your home canning, and also any and all supplements you are taking?  It's important to give the doctors as much information as possible to work with.  Sometimes the smallest piece  of information can unlock the secret of what is going on.  It's worth it to mention any new occurrence that might have triggered these symptoms, as far removed as you might think they are.  We miss you terribly on these boards, and are all praying for a diagnosis so that you might be treated and begin feeling better.

    Re: December 2013

10:00 and I'm still in my nightgown and robe.  What a nice relaxing morning.  Once I get up again from this computer, am not going to let myself drift back, so will just post now that we had a wonderful day.  Everything went along beautifully.  The M.B. turkey dinner was excellent.  G.T. and partner got everything on the stove to heat when it was time, and we sat down around 2:00.  Everyone agreed it was all delicious, and I, plan on going the same route next year and the next and the next!  Brunch was well received, almost all of the strata was gone, I did heat up a piece this morning for breakfast.  What I could send home of leftovers, I did, the scones being the first to go.  Funny, no one opted to try the banana muffins, and they are so good.  No matter, I'll put them in the freezer and enjoy them myself during the month.  G.T.brought a fancy bottle of champagne a business associate had given him - came in its own insulated case (?).  Let me tell you, mimosas never tasted so good!  Shame, to my way of thinking to have used it for that, but he was making them before I realized it.

Pumpkin's mom was touched by the cup/poem I put in her basket and hugged and thanked me (I saw a tear or two in her eyes).  Pumpkin was more interested in playing with the mail slot in my front door than opening his presents!  His little bro was passed from relative to relative and smiled his broadest til he got hungry, and then once fed, dozed off.  Lilly bug got her cast off a couple of days before, and was showing us exercises she has to do to straighten arm.  Passed up gifts she opened this Christmas to go to the toyroom and set up the circus train, school, and farmhouse (old standbys) to play with.  And, oh, GD who made the paper basket gave it to her mom and we all oh'd and ah'd over it.  (see pic of finished product below)

Guess that's all about yesterday.  Looking forward to hearing about each of your days.

Snowing here, already sticking to street.

    Re: December 2013

Seeing a physical therapist for inner ear fluid/sediment manipulation tonight. that sometimes alleviates positional vertigo.  All suggestions, thoughts, prayers, ideas welcome!!  I will mention all those things, tt, but the ENT specialist and my PCP thinks random bone sediment has fallen into my cochlear fluid of my left ear with no known reason.  Therapy has special maneuvers to tilt that non-removable stuff into a part of the cochlea that won't cause these false positional signals to the brain, like those old children's games with the closed maze and little silver balls.  A neighbor is driving me to the appt, and DH is picking me up.  It should be about an hour and can sometimes work right away...other times it can take weeks or even months.  thanks for your continued prayers and thoughts, everyone.

Snowing here...hope roads are ok for appt tonight.

    Good morning from Texas,

What a Christmas, you ended up having, princess. How is DH today? Hopefully better, since you left him by himself at home. Sounds like you are one up on everyone else of us, that have been stuffing ourself the past two days, having a healthy Christmas.

I am so glad to know, that you are getting treatment for a possible problem, Kar. Your ENT could be very right. DH suffered once from Vertigo once, and his ENT twisted his neck certain ways, while he was hangin it over the table. Getting up from there, it was gone. Small crystals in his inner ear. So hope this works for you, so you can start having a normal life again. Crossing my fingers.

tt, glad the bought turkey dinner worked out for you. That's the way, I will go in the future. DS's SIL got up at 4 yester.day morning to prepare a 20 pound turkey to be eaten at 2. I won't miss that. Your bowl is a beautiful way to recycle.

Enjoy your day off, Winter. Are you doing anything special or just chilling out? That's what's we are planning to do.

Have a couple of small loads of laundry to do. Then return to Costco a couple of gifts,  that are too large to travel with. We will then pick them up at our local Costco. Also have to go to the PO to return a couple of gifts, I bought, but didn't use.

Wonder when Hats is coming back. Hope she doesn't have to drive home in the snow.

UK son has face-times us a couple of time from his trip. He is having a great time.

    Have a relaxed day everyone.

Yes, they said "small crystals" or "sediment" - but, just got off the phone with radiology.  Upon further review they want another MRI.  Getting that done after PT.  Hopefully, though, this will be take  care of like your DH's at PT!!!

Stitches!  Cheerio here.  My mother thinks I'm sleeping under the covers in here, but I heard some noise on the computer and go up to check it.   She's out in the kitchen writing out checks for bills - she'll be a while!  I think you look smashing in that Santa's hat.  Glad to see you back on the boards, it's been awfully quiet for me.  Yoda sneaks on once in a while, but Gracie really isn't too fond of us cats, and just sends a pic now and then.  Hope you got some toys for Christmas.  If it hadn't been for the little girl who comes here to bake cookies, I wouldn't have gotten anything.  She gave me a couple of neat long dangly toys.  Oh Oh, my mother must have heard the keys typing, she's coming.  I'll look for your future posts.  Cheeerio !
