I was surprised to see that there was no discussion of the new General Curriculum exam for the MTEL which has been redesigned to include a separate Math half that must be passed independently of the Mult-Subject half.

On the first offering of the new exam back in March '09 only 27% of elementary teacher candidates could pass it at the 80% level (240 out of 300). The passing score was provisionally lowered to (227 out of 300) dependent on a score of 240/300 on a retake within 5 years.

I am curious to know what people think of both the newly designed test and the initial pass rate.
