Who should be the Bostonian of the Year?

Every December the Boston Globe Sunday Magazine crowns a Bostonian of the Year and other notables who made the year memorable. Last year’s winner was Scott Brown and before that Elizabeth Warren. Now they are going to head to head. Coincidence? We think not! This year’s winners will be appear in the January 1, 2012 magazine. Who made 2011 memorable? If it helps, here is a list of some of the year's biggest stories:

    - Arrest of Whitey Bulger

    - Bruins win the Stanley Cup

    - Red Sox collapse

    - Tornados rip through the state

    - Occupy Boston

    - Sal Dimasi is convicted and sentenced

    - Legal Sea Food opens on the waterfront and becomes and instant hit

    - Jacoby Ellsbury hits 30 and steals 30, a first in Sox history

Neither Scott Brown or Elizabeth Warren are from Boston.  Just sayin'

These stories should not even be on the list because the people mostly interested in them are NOT Bostonians but suburbanites:

    Bruins Cup
    Sox Collapse
    Ellsbury

Sports are just entertainment and nothing more.  Get a clue.

I would say Claude Julien, who not only brought the Stanley Cup to Boston but does a lot for local charities, Kim Carrigan from Fox 25 morning news because she's a delight to look at, or Martin Munson from Wickedimproper.com who writes glowing reviews of all things Boston. Good luck to my nominees!

By the way, this award should really be "Bay State Resident Of The Year", as the candidates are usually from a Boston suburb and often not born in Massachusetts(hello, Elizabeth Warren).  Dane Cook is a "Boston guy", but he's from Arlington.

Re: Who should be the Bostonian of the Year?

With so many "worthy" candidates in 2011, it is difficult to name a single one.

    - Sal DiMasi

    - John J. “Jack’’ O’Brien

    - Michael E. McLaughlin

    - Upper Crust owner Jordan Tobins

    - "not guilty" drunk drivers

    - Mystery fish

    - Etc., etc., etc.

Instead, I will nominate Boston Globe's Spotlight Team who broungt all these notables to our attention, and shamed those who should be overseeing them into taking actions. Not too shabby for a year's work. Keep it up.

The Bruins are the best story from 2011, but can you nominate the whole team?

Other than that, mother nature had a big impact in MA with floods, tornadoes, hurricanes and winter storms.  But the impact was mostly negative though.

The rest of the stories just bore me... Red Sox collapse (yawn), Whitey Bulger (yawn, yawn), Occupy Boston (Yawn, Yawn, Yawn...).

Folks, it's the "Boston Globe"...and that does not mean the paper only covers Boston. Don't take it literally. Boston merely represents the region.

NOT ANYONE FROM OCCUPY BOSTON! More than half of them aren't even from New England let alone Massachusetts or Boston. And all they've done is increase the homeless population that Menino so desperately can't control.

    Give it to Timmy Thomas.
