She'll have a chance if she gets the nomination because after that there's only one opponent, and it'll be a republican. The parties could be Lee Harvey Oswald and Ted Bundy up and one of them would win.

Well I'm a Democrat who would normally respond to such prodding, but I can't stand Shillary and think she is a not a good candidate. The only way I'll vote for her is if Romney or Guilani get the nomination because I fear them in the white house even more. I would love to see McCain or even Ron Paul pull out a Dark Horse win, but I don't see that one coming down the pipeline.

Given the choice between Rudy "the Dictator" Guiliani or Mitt "the Used Car Salesman, aka Which Way the Wind Blows" Romney I'll take Hillary (begrudgingly).

My opinion, based on what I've seen so far in the campaign, is that Hillary will say anything to anyone, in order to try and get their votes. I don't consider that unusual,or perhaps even unethical, as compared to many other pols as they are on the campaign trail. What is insidious, and scary, about Hillary (and Bill), is that they have so much inside information about process, that they understand that they can talk through issues without actually taking a stand, and make both sides think that they have a good reason to vote for them. In addition, Orwellian restatements seem to be the order of the day, with Hillary backtracking on prior positions on a regular basis.

Notwithstanding the fact that she has socialist tendencies (health care), as well as communistic leanings (It takes a village), I think that women in general must repudiate her former message which was that she was not going to stay home and bake cookies as it was not worthwhile.

Oh, how the winds have changed.

Ah, ok, your one of the right wing loonies, once you pulled out that crap about socialism and communism you just wrote yourself off.

So your saying that they shouldn't have been allowed to have lawyers? That is a pretty unAmerican viewpoint if I ever heard of one.

Yeah, lawyers are scum. There ought to be a law against them running for office!

Merely taking her own words, and putting them in perspective. Her policies on health care and taxation echo that of those who are in favor of wealth redistribution, and her outlook on life (it takes a village) is completely contra to that of personal and family responsibility, but shifts norms, morals, etc. to that of community responsibility.

What else could I call it?

I didn't say that, and you know it. Whom you work for is your choice, and she chose to work for scum.

That would disqualify about 95% of our elected officials in Congress.

On second thought, not a bad idea!

Well I for one have a hard time condemning someone for something they did back in 1969... and even the reports on she actually did are mixed, so its hard to say exactly what she did. You and I both know though that college students have a tendency to be overly idealistic, the question is, what would she do today. Because I don't know about you, but I would make different decisions now, than I would have made when I was 18, 21 or 25, etc. Its all based on life experiences.

Oh and from I can find, she was a law student at the time and didn't defend them in court, she may or may not have attended attended protests, it all depends on who's stories you believe.

Agreed .. I certainly would not have made the same choices. Although I had opportunties, I decided early on (early 20's) that a political life was not for me, although my family had been in politcs for many years at the local, state and national level.

I view most everything with a jaundiced eye, but that particular story seems to have legs.

She's a very smart lady, but a little too shrewd and willing to change her mind if she thinks that's what her audience wants to hear.

That's not any different than the vast majority of our elected officials today do, I'm afriad.

I liked the pols from many eyars ago, who didn't have to be pretty as there wasn't televison. They had to be smart, as there were no teleprompters. One of the most interesting books about politics is "Team of Rivals", by Doris Kearns Goodwin. It's a lot read, but provides fascinating insights into Abraham Lincoln, adn his friends and rivals who all came together during his administration. Their ability to be orators, and to actually answer non-scripted crowd questions was amazing.

Only went back to him as I loved the book.

Agreed. The Apathy party has a lot of members. Perhaps its due to:

    a. the amount of money it takes to get elected to just about any office that matters.
    b. the amount of time which is spent campaigning, and not actually doing your job.
    c. the intense scrutiny and "living under a microscope" world that politicians live in.
    d. The poor pay.

Perhaps we should go back to an oligarchy, or a benevolent dictatorship.

I recently read Lincoln, and was amazed at how little politics has changed. There was just as much smearing partisan speak about opponents as there is today. Politicians were constantly accused of corruption, false stories where propogated questioning individuals patriotism their past decisions and so on. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I think that they said it better in the older days. no sound bites. They actually got into fistfights as well. Come to think of it, that might be a good way to resolve some campaigns.
