A SURVEY: HOW DO YOU THINK THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN SHOULD END?

Given the amount of threads regarding the government shutdown for weeks, by now I believe almost every single poster has formed an opinion has to how the government shutdown should end and why?

I would like this thread to be posts about that and your reasons why.

p.s. This is different then how you believe the government shutdown is GOING to end and why. That is a different thread.

Re: A SURVEY: HOW DO YOU THINK THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN SHOULD END?

It should start today with the GOP leadership meeting at the White House.

Obama cracked open the door with his offer with a shortertem CR and Debt Ceiling solution for a committed promise to negotiate on budget and even ACA improvements

Boehner indicated the door was open to such an offer

Both sides win, both save face.

Now just do it, and negotiate something of value over the next 3-6 months.

Once a leader gets off their soapbox and looks at the issues the motivation and potential brokered solutions it all becomes easy.  Maybe with the pending apocalypse of a default the Spirits of Reagan and O'Neil vistied the President.

Re: A SURVEY: HOW DO YOU THINK THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN SHOULD END?

I think it should end by all our elected officials admitting to the facts of the constitution, principally, that they are co-equal branches, and must behave as such.

Then, I want our politicians to admit to another inconvenient fact, that they work for we the people.  I think there has been plenty of display fo the opposite principle in effect:  i.e. , shutting down the monuments on the mall to citizens while opening the mall at the other end for illegals.  This warped view has got to stop.  So, a heart felt pronouncement from our politicians, all of them, that they work for us.  Ifthey can't do that convincingly, then, time for them to seek employment elsewhere.

Then a group hug.  Seriously.  nothing is going to get done until they realize that they are in it together, with us, the people.  Enough of this two sets of books, two sets of rules.  We all perish or thrive by the same rules.

Finally, I expect the politicians to take a long, hard look at what they are doing.  For example, foisting Obamacare on a people that have always been against it, and defund it.  Not because it is wrong necessarily, but because they went about it wrong.  Un-ring the bell.  It is not often we have suc ha chance.

Having done the above, I expect Obamacare to be defunded, but I also expect an honest discussion to occur on how to best meet the needs of the people in terms of healthcare, a real debate, with Republicans coming to the table, a real sharing of issues, not the non-debate set up by a President flush with the trappings of power and rich on election rhetoric.

People:  This is not about winning or losing, this is about doing the right thing.  Right now, our governemnt is not doing the right thing, behaving as promised, and doing so within the limits set by the consitution.

    Time to change that.

Re: A SURVEY: HOW DO YOU THINK THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN SHOULD END?

I'd like to think it should end by enough people learning the truth.  And the truth is that this group of Tea Party representatives, who are pretending to be real 'muricans are nothing more than bought and paid stooges for a group a well monied interest groups that want to tear down the government for the sake of denying health insurance to millions of Americans, among other sinister things.  Don't want to go along with their plans?  Fine, we'll replace you in the next primary with someone who will.

Somehow the folks back in the home district haven't been able to connect the dots yet.  Probably because they get their information from echo chambers and hate jockeys who are also paid by those same monied interests.   And in what can only be described as cognitive dissonance, a large percentage of the people without health insurance are the ones who support the Tea Partiers, not knowing that they will be the biggest losers if they get what they say they want.

Unconditional increase of the debt limit.

TP refrains from blowing up a spending/revenue deal to seriously address deficits.

Re: A SURVEY: HOW DO YOU THINK THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN SHOULD END?

The rational party makes the first move. Not like.....well you know.

House Republicans announced late Thursday morning before a meeting with President Obama at the White House that they are offering a temporary, six week debt ceiling increase in exchange for the ability to go to conference over the budget.

"Over the course of the past 10 days we've been trying to have conversations with our Democratic colleagues, they don't want to talk. The president doesn't want to talk," House Speaker John Boehner said. "I would hope the president would look at this as an opportunity and good faith effort for our party to move half way."

After nearly two weeks of the House repeatedly passing legislation funding the government and being denied by the Senate, the Republican offer goes a long way to help solve the stalemate over the budget and debt limit in Washington. President Obama is expected to meet with House Republicans today and with Senate Democrats and Republicans Friday.

They were the ones to refuse to fund government in the first place. I suppose the disengenous always-blame-the-D wasn't a surprise though.

Their present "offer" is to raise the debt limit but keep government shut down so they can continue to blame Dems for the effects of the shutdown.

At least they are showing that they are willing to negotiate, it's going to have to start somewhere. Obama & Reid look sillier as every day passes, holding their breath like a spoiled rotten kid. "NO, we will not negotiate". And he's supposed to be the leader?

They're the ones that shut down government.

Funny how we keep forgetting about that.

Re: A SURVEY: HOW DO YOU THINK THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN SHOULD END?

Well as we've been told, Obama chose to shut down the government in order to force the house to defund Obamacare. The GOP just wants to re-open goverment. So clearly they'll be demanding that Obama agree to fund Obamacare. Right?

I mean..that's what this is all about, seeing as according to BDC conservatives it's all Obama's fault anyway.

    Right?

    mmj,

Since you mentioned the spirits of Reagan and O'Neil visiting the President, you might be interested in a new book solely about the relationship that O'Neil and Reagan had.

Just out, written by Chris Matthews.
