I can remember in the 80's and 90's the terrorist chanted and protested that we were cowards because we bombed their women and children from the skies and would not fight man to man.

A tactical decision (re American lives) that I suggest might have been eclipsed had we taken the strategic one that I argued to invade Pakistan and Saudi Arabia instead of Afghanistan and Iraq, if indeed we needed to invade anyone, back at the top.

And, for another starting point and thread, we are just now staring into the maw of the whole drone value proposition.  (Think: "If it can be done, it will be.")

At least, the good news is that right wing talk is now saying we should have learned from the Soviets w/r/t Afghanistan (as we were training up al Qaeda?) ...So it looks like the exeunt from there is coming into closer view.  Early 2013?

    That wasn't my concern.

Actually, in partial agreement with you that the drones are a Pandora's box.  But that probably wasn't your concern.

So Obama is attacked from the left for how he makes war on terrorists, but many conservatives will still suggest he is a left wing apologist for radical Islamists.   Interesting...

We’ve got to get the job done there and that requires us to have enough troops so that we’re not just air-raiding villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous problems there. -- Obama 2007

Interesting - when Bush invades Iraq and civilians get killed, the moonbats go nuts and start a body count. Obama kills 'em and he is a hero warrior out to save America from the terrorists.

    Indeed. The hypocrisy is stunning.

The point of the article is that some on the left have taken Obama to task for his warmaking role and they don't see him as a hero, indeed quite the reverse.

    ...otherwise this would be bad....

A new study conducted by law professors at Stanford and New York University contends that the U.S. use of drones to target suspected militants in Pakistan has had a "damaging and counterproductive effect" on the country and has killed far more civilians than previously acknowledged.

The study, which was released on Tuesday, relies on some 130 interviews with civilians living in the regions of northern Pakistan where targeted drone strikes have been most frequent. Working with the activist group Reprieve, the team of professors have added to the growing body of literature that argues, contrary to Obama administration claims, that numerous civilians have been killed, and many more traumatized, by the drone strike program.

Here is an interesting tidbit from the article:

Pointing to a recent survey that found that nearly three-fourths of Pakistanis now consider the U.S. an "enemy," the authors go on to argue that drone strikes may also be reducing the population's willingness to collaborate against terrorists.
