    The Hurricane and the G.O.P.

Hurricane Isaac hits the G.O.P. convention.  Obviously this is Divine Retribution.  Isaac lived to be 180 years old.  What kind of care could he expect from Ryan's plan for the elderly?  Not much.  Hence the storm.

Isaac is avoiding Tampa, not even close...he is now making a beeline for a place that really needs Divine Retribution,  the crooked City of Chicago; he may not make it, unfortunately.

Wealth redistribution, like most liberal ideas is just plain stupid.  We have been doing it for decades, to the point where the top half pays 98% of the income tax.  this approach has been a cycle of tax the rich/not enough money: tax the rich some more/STILL not enough money, and so on.  At each step, the liberal notion that taxing the rich will solve our economic problems has failed, which has led to demands for more tax dollars from the rich.

Wake up, people!  it is not working, hasn't worked, and won't work, because it is  a blindingly stupid concept to try to tax the wealth creators wealth in order to create more wealth.  Blindingly stupid, I tell yah.

Poor choice for a thread as the current path is earily similar to Katrina's.

Obama reallocated $700B and growing, from Medicare future spending to balance the ACA costs, no Medicare plan modifications proposed to save the plan.  Ryan's plan reduces the Medicare costs by $700B by proposing to modyify and save the plan.  One was a plan the other was performed by flim flam man to take his cut to further his agenda.

Now may be headed for the city the GOP abandoned.  Pray that it fizzles.  Looks like it only scrambled the plans for the convention - including some celebrities' arrival and so the opening - but, thank God, didn't scramble Tampa.

The city the GOP abandoned?  I assume you mean New Orleans?

Mayor:  Democrat.  Whereabouts unknown during hurricane.

Governor:  Democrat.  Call to the republican president for help?  No.  The republican president called the governor, and the governor declined help.  The republican president call AGAIN, and AGAIN, the governor declines the offer of help.

Yah, I think someone abandoned the people of New Orleans, and it wasn't the republicans.

Re: The Hurricane and the G.O.P.

Afterward.  Remember Speaker Hastert's clever quip:  "Why is New Orleans?"  A position he explained, maintained, doubled down.  A reflection of how his party abandoned New Orleans during.  And afterward.

Oh yes - during - where was the first place the president flew to?  Northern Command headquarters in Colorado Springs.  Where were his priorities?  There.  What was he preparing for?  An uprising?  Of people, not water.

Sat. Aug 27,  At Gov Blanco's request, President Bush declares a federal state of emergency for Louisiana, and gives FEMA authority to provide aid.

Sun. Aug 28, Mayor Nagin orders a mandatory evacuation of New Orleans, Buses, trains, and most airlines have stopped service to and from the area

Mon Aug 29 - Levees in New Orleans are breached, flooding parts of the city. Power is lost,

Bush declares a major disaster in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi, and declares that "I want the folks there on the Gulf Coast to know... When the storm passes, the federal government has got assets and resources that we'll be deploying to help you." Blanco asks Bush for "everything you've got," without specifying what that means.

Tues Aug 30: 80% of the city is flooded, Chertoff designates Katrina an Incident of National Significance, and gives Brown authority to manage the crisis, Bush ends his vacation early

Aug 31, Blanco asks Bush for 40,000 federal troops; military assistance had not been specified in her previous requests for aid.  Chertoff declares that the Department of Homeland Security is "extremely pleased with the response that every element of the federal government, all of our federal partners, have made to this terrible tragedy."

Sept 1: FEMA has now rescued 350 people; the Coast Guard, 2,900

More idiots posting about a hurricane being diving retribution. I'm considering more and more of you to be 2-year-olds refusing to grow up.

I'll play along with this one, though. You say it's diving retribution. I ask for what. Think carefully before you reply, though, because here's what's going to happen unless Isaac makes a severe turn:

It will make landfall in the general vicinity of New Orleans at or near Category 1 status. Upon hitting land, Isaac will stall, taking more than a day to clear into land enough to weaken it.
As a result of the stall, Isaac will drop no less than 10 inches of rain on whatever part of the coast it hits, not to mention areas inland.
If this hits New Orleans dead center, even if the levys hold, the city will be under 10 inches of water.

So, I ask again, what is this retribution for? Is it possible that any of you can wish so hard that a city should drown for any reason, never mind because the republicans are holding a convention?

It's a joke. A joke. God is not a Democrat or a Republican either...

And it was a play on certain conservative types of a religious bent who have said similar nonsense about other such events.

But it is interesting how many conservatives took the joke seriously.  Very instructive on the their mindset.

The Voice of the Republican Party is now saying the Hurricane was never headed for Tampa and it was the Obama Administration that forced the Hurricane Center to alter the forecast to make it look like it was going to hit Tampa.  It was part of a conspiracy to get the Republicans to cancel the convention.
