    July pregnancy

Oops it is July already! I hope that everyone is able to stay cool with the weather - having to hike up the hill to my car at work and be in the hot sun and get to a hot car, etc. makes me soooo uncomfortable until it cools off! AFM I am now 27 weeks now and am already ready to be done. I have been having on and off migraines and sciatica so I'm either feeling fine or miserable. This afternoon I have a PT appointment, so hopefully they will help give me some ideas for how to better stretch out, sit, etc. to not be so uncomfortable.

How is everyone else doing? Any fun things happening for the Fourth of July or any relaxing vacations coming up? We are hoping to take DS#1 up to Maine in a couple of weekends to see some trains. At 19 months old now he is obsessed with cars and "choo-choos"!

    Re: July pregnancy

Tomarra, we were originally planning to do the same thing, but my sister and mom insisted that we needed a traditional cradle instead. It was my mom's gift to us, so I guess that's what we'll go with.

Poppy - wow, only 2.5 weeks? Good luck getting everything unpacked and ready! It sounds like you'll have enough people to help out with anything that is unfinished. Try not to stress too much. We are in a similar position because we had to move everything to the basement to get our floors redone and now we have to repaint the baseboard throughout so we're also living in boxes. It's stressful and we have 5 more weeks than you!

AFM - I had my doctor's appointment yesterday and she seemed less concerned about me measuring small than the midwife was. She said I was within the acceptable range and since the heartbeat is good and there's lots of movement she's not too worried. Also the head was down at the appointment but it doesn't mean that won't change in the next 3.5 week. In any case, I'm feeling much better after hearing all that!

Just curious for those that have been through it before - when did you stop gaining weight? I heard that you typically don't gain any more after about 36-37 weeks. Does that sound right?

Weight has so many factors it's hard to gauge what to expect by other's experiences, but if you take pregnancy in isolation as the only factor it should taper off about then. As for what actually happens, though, that depends on not only what week you are but how much you are eating and are able to exercise as well as how much you've gained so far in your pregnancy.

Had some spotting a littlel while ago...please send all the sticky thoughts you have. The good thing is that it stopped (I have no idea if that means ANYTHING) and my OB moved my u/s from next week to tomorrow morning. So, at least I'll know tomorrow if this is viable or not.

I know that spotting early on is common and could be nothing. I am praying that is the case. :-(

    Sticky thoughts your way Silver!

Good news on our front...had my 34 week ultrasound and app't with the maternal fetal specialist today and all looked good.  BP was perfect, fluid levels and estimated weight for the baby (even though it's far from spot on) was 5 lbs.  And best of all, I was right, and the baby is now head down!!!!  Now I just need him or her to stay head down for the next 4-7 weeks or so until it's delivery time...hopes for a VBAC are back!

u/s this morning showed baby measuring exactly 6 weeks which is what I thought - and hR was 105. I think that's is a good HR For this stage? Anyway, I'm very relieved!

Luv, glad he/she flipped for you - hope you get your VBAC. :-)

Congrats, Silver and Luv on your good appointments!

Cici, at my last doc appt at 36 weeks I had actually lost a pound from the previous appointment.  Of course, it likely had to do with other factors, such as time of day, hydration etc., but, point being was I hadn't gained a significant amount.  The nurse said this was typical and that "most people" taper off weight gain during the last few weeks.   I certainly don't feel smaller!

AFM, almost 38 weeks and hanging in there.  I'm still going to work but starting to think of taking off a week prior to my due date to just relax.  My water broke with DD #1 and, thankfully,  I was home and able to contain the mess...terrified of this happening again and me being in public.

I'm glad your ultrasound went well Silver.  What a relief for you to see that little heartbeat!  For what its worth, spotting does happen and a lot of the time all is fine.  I had spotting throughout my first trimester with DD (who is 2 now).  Hopefully you can breathe a little easier today after the good appointment.

Luv - glad the baby is head down!

Yay, Silver, for the good ultrasound!!!  I know in the beginning it feels like every day is so long, trying to get to that safer point in a pregnancy.  Good news is that you've checked another day off on the calendar!

Silver - Yay that is great news!  I'll keep on sending sticky vibes your way.

Tomarra - I've heard of a lot of people using the pack n play in the early weeks.  I'm not too familiar with them though.  When you say 2 level do you mean one that has a bassinet feature?  I'm pretty sure just the upper level insert thingy is not recommended for overnight sleeping... Though others may have experience with that.  (We used a newborn rocker for the first weeks.)

Cici - I've never heard a general rule for the final weeks, but I gained a 2-3 lbs during the last 4-5 weeks.  I felt bigger and bigger but apparently wasn't gaining :o)

Hope y'all don't mind my posting.  I'm living vicariously through you!

    Silver and Luv, great news!

I'm supper exited for those of you nearing the end of the pregnancy and I hope all goes well.

Thank you for all your thoughts about the play n pack.  It's nice to know that my idea wasn't crazy.  The play n pack we are looking to has two levels.  The top level like bassinet which has a changing table that we can attach.  Similar to this one

DD slept in the pack n play bassinet for 8 weeks before moving into her crib - no issues. however, we did buy a special mattress for it so that she wasn't sleeping on the crappy pack n play mattress. it was around $50 at buy buy baby.

Tomarra - that's basically what we have DS in. We haven't used the napper feature but use the changer and bassinet setting for DS. Silver - congrats on the good us

How is everyone doing?  I'm counting down - 10 days from this moment this baby will be on the outside. As long as all goes according to plan.  I still cannot get my head around it.  Totally stressed out and have been dealing with a horrible cold, but otherwise things are fine. :)

    Re: July pregnancy

Poppy, I'm right there with you on the countdown...even though I have about a month to go, I can see it speeding by and still feel like I have so much to do to be ready.  On the other hand, maybe because of DD, I'm not as stressed about having stuff ready as I was with her; I know as long as I have the pack n play, some diapers and wipes and the pump parts ready to go, we'll be able to figure things out.

I do feel huge lately, though...just in the last couple of days...I'm more cautious walking down stairs, for instance, since I can't see my feet under me.  Fortunately, at yesterday's NST app't, all still looked good with my BP and with baby.  I have to talk to my MW at my next app't about what our plan is if this kid is still on the inside after the due date; they're not into inducing for VBACs, so we'll have to have the "how long will you let me wait before a RCS" talk.

    Re: July pregnancy

I have been having the same feelings, but have had a world of trouble getting onto the website again!!

After DS's birthday party this weekend, I officially started nesting. room is ready, clothes are in the drawers, and i got the car seats put in (why it is so hot??) so. now I feel kinda ready.  I hypothetically have 3 weeks... although she is big and I may wind up induced again.

luv- I really hope that you go early. not really early, but early enough to try the VBAC.

poppy- are you ready with respect to stuff? I still haven't packed my bag... I was in labor a very long time with the first one and barely used what I packed, so I think that there is this nonchalant part of me who thinks I have plenty of time- and then I remember that I will be having to deal with DS and separation, and felt I needed to have everything ready. this week, my goal is to get some lists and timelines all set for whomever is caring for him, as well as a "food drawer" in the fridge. I also bought one of those hallmark books where you can record your voice reading a story for bedtime- is that too cheesy?

Poppy - I can't believe you're due in 10 days. I feel like your pregnancy flew by. Winter - I think the recorded story is sweet. Also do you have devises that could do FaceTime or Skype? Perhaps you could do that with your DS before he heads off to bed. Good luck to all of you in the final weeks!

    Re: July pregnancy

Winter, I love that Hallmark book idea! I may have to go pick one up myself! I am also in slight disbelief that I will have a new baby w/in next two weeks. My official due date is 8/11. So far nothing is brewing. I feel like the worst part of the next few weeks is the mental part of it - everyone keeps asking me (like I know!!) and it's hard not to analyze every ache, pain or cramp as the beginning of labor. I am also anxious about how it will go down in terms of DD. I hope we will have enough time/warning to be able to say goodbye to her and explain where we are going. She is 2.5 years old and so much more aware of what is going on than she was even a few months ago that I think it would really help her if we can say goodbye. I ended up buying her a Dora backpack and have been stuffing it full of little things to be from the baby (ie stickers, play dough, sparkle bracelet set etx). Nothing super big but I think she will be excited about all of it. I also took her to the store and let her pick out a present that she is going to give to the baby. Probably partly because of all of these DD related anxieties are keeping me up at night, i havent been sleeping well. Hard to Get comfortable. How's everyone doing? Anyone else peeing like 6 times a night? Ridiculous!

rama- I have started to cut myself off of any liquids after dinner (around 7ish). occasionally I have ice cream, but try not to drink. it has helped to limit the nighttime bathroom trips to maybe 2.

re: Skype or face time.  I'm sure it's different for every kid, but I wouldn't attempt it while in the hospital unless the older LO is already used to it.  Like, if you already travel and use it to chat when you're away, they would be familiar with it and I'm sure it would be fine.
But I just had a friend have her 2nd and thought it would be a good idea to Skype with the 3 year old and it was a big disaster.  He was completely fine and happy until he saw mom in the computer and he became inconsolable.  I think a mix of remembering that she wasn't around, plus it being a weird new experience.  It was very hard on her because she was stuck in the hospital and couldn't help.  :(

    Re: July pregnancy

medford- I had the same thoughts- DS is still in a very "momma" place, and does better when I am completely out of the house, then when I am around but not available. We do skype with other family members, but he understands they have to take planes to our house... so i was also worried he would think that I had flown somewhere.
however, for others who use face time and such, it may be really helpful.
