    Are we done?

ok, 9-10 days more before the trade deadline. I'm not trying to be greedy, but do you guys think the Bruins are done?

9-10 days is a lot time for other teams GM's to come calling about the Tor #1 pick.

I sitll believe we need more punch on the wing. Sure Ryder, and Horton could step it up, but they have been very inconsistent. I like this Peverly move, he brings speed and is willing to go to the net, and shoots a lot!

    What do you guys think!?

    GO B's!

I'm wondering, with the rash of injuries on defence men lately throughtout the NHL, if PC won't be getting calls for one of our Defence man? And then if so, for what ? Someone up front or draft picks ? I'm thinking that if the Bruins Western road swing is a bust (i really really hope not), that PC might pull another trade off. One more week to see the Bruins play the Oilers at Rexall. I can hardly wait. Go Bruins.

They're done!  And I'm satisfied.  Unless they move Ryder (impossible unless the TOR pick is in play, which I would certainly now keep that it could be the #1 with TOR a safe bet to be in the lottery).  If they packaged both of these and Krejci that would allow them to make an $8M splash.  However, that is highly unlikely and a giant risk.  Brad Richard's is not worth it.  Maybe Rick Nash?

    Re: Are we done?

I think the timing of the Kaberle trade was key. In these next 9 days PC will be evaluating the team to see if another transaction is needed. Any transaction from here on out will be very difficult to pull off without affecting the team chemistry. Any trade would require moving an existing roster player to make room for any new addition and for that reason I think PC is done.

The hope now is Ryder can pull-off another post season run like his first as a bruin in 2008-09 when he had 13 points in 11 games and that Horton and Kaberle can perform under playoff pressures that neither have seen in many years. I have faith that they can at least reach the Conference Finals with this current group.

That's what I'm thinking GoodNewsBears, doesn't hurt to listen. I think there will be more sellers within the next week, just before the deadline. That's what a GM does, always looking to make the team better, thats his job.

You can't tell me, ryder's 4 million (expiring contract) tor's #1 pick, and a prospect or two, can't net a legit scorer from a team selling. With Ryders $4 mil and the other $1mil we saved with all these deals, something can happen. If not, I can live with it, If so, awesome. GO B's!

A GM should always be looking at improving the team.

Pretty sure PC is getting calls from a few teams re D-men but I think he's upgraded as much as he can for now.

Looking forward to seeing Peverley play. I'll be at the B-Habs game on March 8, hope Peverley (the hab killer) plays to form!

I wouldn't be surprised if he picked up a veteran #8 depth D-man.  If Boston plan on making a deep playoff run, that is a lot of games from now until then.  If two Boston defensmen are hurt simutaneously (very plausible), I'd rather not have to rely on Bartowski or Valabik in a playoff game.

Chiarelli said yesterday - with a sigh of relief - that, yes, they are pretty much all done.  Anything from here on out would only be for depth.

I think Chiarelli has sent a message to the team: I've done my part, now you do yours. This team, when the will is there, can score goals and can keep other teams from scoring. I think Kelly and Peverley were added to spark the team's energy level so that the team will have fewer "off" nights.

Here's hoping the goaltending situation gets Rask sharpened up, and Thomas freshened up, for the playoffs.

    Re: Are we done?

I dont think PC is done, there are a couple of trades that likely fell thru before they finally settled on kaberle. In all honesty shipping wheeler and stuart away for cap space made no sense when all they had to do was ship ryder to the minors then demote a defenseman as well. Wheeler compared to peverly just a handful of points but a mile difference in plus minus. I see a loss in that trade to the bruins.Kaberle a plus but saying all this, there was no improvement up front. Kelly may provide some depth, but thats it. Peverly maybe improve his minus 16 with the Bs but he sacrifices his offense ( if u wanna call it that ). The Bs will if available will acquire a top 6 forward thats proven.

Injuries may occur and someone just might need a PK specialist like Paille so there could be a move before the 28th you never know.

Why would Bruins trade Paille?  They aren't exactly too deep in forwards.  After Paille and Caron, I guess Hamill would be next on the depth chart.  If they get rid of Paille and two guys get injured in the next couple months, that would put Hamill on the playoff roster.  Who would want to see that?

Souray placed on waivers in EDM. Not sure if this works within available cap space though.

Souray still has years left on his contract past this one at 4.5 mil per.  That is why Edmonton are so desperate for someone to take him.

There must be a way around next year if he wants to play in the NHL this year. Perhaps one of the cap technicians on here can figure it out I'm sure.

Ooops. And I meant to add that I'd add any available hired gun (Satan, Souray, etc.) the B's can squeeze in within the available cap space and have available for the playoff roster. As most of the folks on here desire I also would like a Cup this year . Repeat, this year.

I'm with you on this one, Abra!

Did we all forget what happened when Sturm & Krejci went down in the 2nd round with injuries?? Let's keep the depth we got right now. Now many team have the luxury of this kinda depth going into the playoffs.

    Re: Are we done?

I won't be surprised if Chiarelli does a little trawling in the minors as he's done the last few years.  Trade a lower pick like a 4 or 5 for four year college player who isn't in another organization's plans at the moment.  Or trade the rights to a Mikko Lehtonen for the rights to Kiril Petrov or some other kid who doesn't want to leave the KHL for a third line spot on the Islanders.

I don't recall another GM as proactive with the bottom third of his assets as Chiarelli.  One of the reasons people can say "I want a Cup now!" is the deals for players like McQuaid and Kampfer who have made real contributions including making Stuart and Hunwick expendable.  Kampfer was a 2007 4th rounder, and Chiarelli dealt last year's 4th rounder for him, so the Bruins basically drafted a defenseman in the fourth round last year who is now making an impact in the NHL.  McQuaid was a second-rounder when drafted in 2005; Chiarelli got him for a 5th rounder in 2007.  Only 4 players drafted in the 5th round that year have played at least one NHL game.  Three of them have combined for 49 games and 5 points.  The other was drafted with the pick the Bruins sent to Columbus, which Columbus then sent to Dallas.

    Dallas selected Jamie Benn.

Sometimes trading a $2 lottery ticket for two playoff golds bites you in the ....  But I'm betting most of us make that deal.

PC said that in terms of "bigger" moves their done. But when asked the question of TOR's #1 pick he also said that if it's intriguing and substantial then yes, he'll give it a look.

For instance, if the Ducks called PC and said "Give us Ryder, Hamill, TOR-#1 for Bobby Ryan or Perry i bet he'll listen. Or if Edmonton offered Alex Hemsky for TOR-#1.

So, theoretically they may not be done. Who knows, maybe TOR goes into a deep tail-spin and falls to top-3 during the next week or so. Teams would definitely line up to at least inquire of what it would take to get the pick. For some reason, and this is a personal hunch, i get the feeling that TOR-#1 will get traded. If not now, then most certaintly in the draft where the Bruins will hold the cards.
