Around the League - 2013 Edition

Glad as I am to see the NHL game, the Chicago-LA and Ottawa-Winnipeg games were sloppy as expected.  Didn't see much of the Pennsylvania game.  Couple of quick observations:

Love to watch Toews play.  Chicago has to stay healthy because I enjoy that team.  Love to see a Chicago-Boston final.

Ottawa didn't look dangerous, but Silferberg is in the Calder conversation for a reason and he looks like he can keep up on a line with Spezza and Michalek.  That's a heck of an opportunity to lead rookies in scoring.  Also, Turris is an established player and is playing like it.

Wheeler was pretty much invisible except when he was on for goals against.  Kane looked like he was going to own the game, then faded after the first.  Byfuglien may be wearing a fat suit in the off-seasons, but he was every bit the threat.  I'll be surprised if Scheifele doesn't stick after 6.  He was one of the more aggressive Jets players with the puck and had a couple of really good chances - plus drew a penalty.

No fights in the first 3 games.  Jets flopped (sry Red) at home and I was thinking the Sens would not repeat the season they had last.

Pretty good game actually Book. It looked like it was going to be another high scoring affair with Pitt up 2-0 seven minutes in but the goalies really played well over the final 2 periods. The play was surprisingly not sloppy. It actually looked like they picked up where they left off in last year's playoffs.

Got to agree about the goaltending in the Pitts-Philly game. Fleury obviously got the message that his job is now in jeopardy.....

I'm channel surfing over to Leafs Habs game during Bruins breaks.

Opening ceremony took 4 hours 37 minutes as they wheeled every half dead Hab captain out with a Bic lighter.

But it's not the Leafs being good, it's the Habs being so bad.

It's like the keystone cops out there.

Wow, I thought the Bruins were rusty, but watching this...  what a mess.  I think I've just 2 minutes of hockey with end to end rushes each way, and not a shot on goal either end.

Yah, first bell might have just rung for the Red Wings.  Brings me back to the memories of the Dead Wings and wondering if they would give up the Steve Y something or other kid.

Huberdeau with a goal and 2 assists in his NHL debut. Oh yeah, the old guy Kovalev matched him.

How about Erik Karlsson picking up right where he left off? Anyone see that one-timer? Kid is fun to watch.

He's one of those players with a skill set that would work in any system. I'd love to see him in Boston but the Sens won't be letting him go anytime soon.
