I just read about this. The NHL is now going to tell coaches who they can and cannot put on the ice? That's bad news. If the Leafs put a goon out also, would it have been okay?
So many bad things about this. Just really bad.
NHL FINES JULIEN $1,000 FOR UNSPORTMANLIKE CONDUCT
Boston - The NHL front office has levied a $1,000 fine on Boston Bruins coach Claude Julien for unsportsmanlike conduct. In last night's lopsided game against the New York Islanders, with the Bruins ahead 6-1, Julien double shifted his top line of David Krejci, Milan Lucic and Loui Eriksson with under two minutes to play.
"That's not how we want the games to be played", said Commissioner Gary Bettman. "We don't need to see six, seven goal games. These guys are professionals, but they are also people. We don't want to keep fans away with the impression that their team is terrible."
Reached for comment, Julien was less than impressed. "F*** Bettman and f*** the league," quipped Julien. "I'll take their fines and I'll pay them, but I'll put whomever the F*** I want on the ice at any time."
In other news, Steve Ott was fined $2,500 for saying mean things to Chris Neil at the faceoff, Jon Quick was fined $5,000 for posting three shutouts in a row ("Gotta give guys a chance", said Bettman) and 21,913 fans in Montreal received citations for booing the Toronto Maple Leafs as they entered the ice.
(please note: This entire story is false. If you use it as reference, you will be fined $10,000.)
