    datsyuk for bergeron

talking to one of my red wing fan buddies and was as usual just drooling over datsyuk and he asked if i'd trade bergeron for him.

I think Datsyuk is the best player in the league but I still hesitated, and wouldn't say yes.  Am I just a homer?

Homerism aside, I'd decline based on the ages of the players.

They are very similar in value, but Datsyuk is better. However, Datsyuk is 34 and russian (no guarantee he stays here too much longer), and Bergeron is 27, and is still improving every year. Any GM that would trade bergy for datsyuk should be fired on the spot.

He's one of the best players in the last 15 years.

Awesome player. But I don't think anyone is better than Crosby.

Bergeron's younger - I'd take Patrice. Age is my only reason.

And I would not call Patrice Bergeron a Superstar.  But will Bergie ever be considered a Superstar.  He certainly has better numbers then Datsyuk at this age.  Of course at this age Datsyuk goes on a four year tear getting the following points 87, 87, 97, 97.  I expect Bergie to exceed his career high 73 points ('05-'06) in the future, but I don't expect him to reach the high 80s.

I would still keep Bergie because of age and because he's one of my favorite Bruins of all time.

Give the guy a break. Maybe he simply wants Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan?
