    Eastern Conference Trades

Im sure most of you have noticed, but since the Joe Thorton trade, the Bruins have made more trades with eastern conference teams than out west. Wonder why that it, when we see the EC more than the WC. Toronto, couple times, Carolina, Atlanta, Ottawa couple times, Florida. Anyone have anything to add?

Over the years, the Bruins haven't being shy to trade with the Oil. The team out West they have traded with the most, and perhaps in the NHL.

    Re: Eastern Conference Trades

I hate to pull up Bobby Clarke as an authority on how to be a GM, but one of the smarter things he said was that you make deals to improve your club, so you worry about getting what you need, not who's selling it to you.  If the pieces you're giving up will be that much of a threat on another club, why aren't you keeping them?

There are exceptions, of course, like when you're divorcing a star player and you don't want him to be taking curtain calls in your building 2-3 times a year.  Clarke, of course, clearly didn't see this as an exception when trading Lindros to the Rangers.

Point, in the end, is that you make the best deal you can and if it's with anyone but the Habs, well...so be it.
