Finally, collusion at least in the discussion

I mentioned in a few other discussion threads, the thought that owners can't truly police themselves effectively due to collusion...  nice to see an article at least putting it in the discussion:

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nhl--collusion-question-goes-right-to-the-heart-of-the-nhl-lockout.html

<<<"We say the owners need to be saved from themselves. Well, yeah. They do, and they know it. Owners want to win so badly that they will push themselves beyond the point of financial sense, just like players will push themselves past the point of physical sense.

If the owners try to keep themselves in check, they usually fail, and if they succeed, they could be breaking antitrust law. The NHL owners sacrificed the 2004-05 season to force the players to accept a salary cap. Owners want clear boundaries in the boardroom just as players want clear boundaries on the ice – keeping them from pushing too far and, more importantly, their competitors from pushing too far. ">>>

Not sure "all" owners want to win that badly, as described... but many of them do.

The article is an interesting read and at least factors in yet another element of an already complicated debate.

    Good points.

Also when do we see an article on the agents on how they play the game between teams in the rise of salaries/contracts ?

I'm sure if there would be collusion between owners the agents would be the first to expose, even before the PA.

Great point... agents are readily discussed in two sports (Baseball / Football) but not so much in Basketball (it's more just an amorphous salaries are all out of whack discussion) and almost never in Hockey.

Yup,  brings me back to that thread how agents are weasels.  Not all of them of course but a good chunk.

I'm still waiting for them to speak. Aren't they losing millions ? NOT !
