I'm not sure why Daugavins and his AHL numbers are relevant. Saying he's a younger version tells me you don't really watch them enough to see the differences when they're on the ice. Daugavins has no concept of good defensive hockey. Caron excels at it. Put it this way, I can name at least 100 players who are in the NHL because they are able to play in their own end without adding much offensively. The opposite type of players are few and far between. Every team will make room for a guy like Vern Fiddler and they will all be quick to ship out players like Chris Bourque or Bochenski.

No, me saying that means that he is NEITHER the defensive stalwart you pull out of thin air NOR the mediocre AHL scorer that Daugavins is. He is a AAAA player that has no place on a Cup contending team. Both Daugavins and Caron are 6'2 ish 205ish warm bodies. I don't know why the infatuation you have with this guy, but Bruins management agree with ME. Needing a 3rd/4th line player they played Pandawful, claimed Daugavins, signed Soderberg. to upgrade that roster spot. To boot, for the money, I'd much rather have $500,000+ extra cap space and let one of the kids fight for that spot. Trade him and a 5th round pick to Anaheim for Bobby Ryan.

Pulled out of thin air?  The guy has been a defensive specialist all the way back to his appearance at the World Juniors. There's a reason Caron is rarely on for goals against and that Daugavins is consistently a minus player. The idea that finally getting Soderberg to play in North America is an indictment of Caron's ability makes no sense to me. Caron could've exceeded all expectations and PC was still going to try to sign Soderberg. I'll tell you the same as I've said to others. Feel free to remind me of what I said if Caron isn't in the NHL next year. My confidence in him becoming an NHL'er is as high as your skepticism of it. We shall see.

I'm not sure what causes it sometimes but I understand your points regardless. I'm aware of being basically alone on this subject and I'm OK with it. We shall see.

    Not entirely alone.

I think Caron has shown some flashes of being a regular NHLer.  The problem is consistency which is a hard thing to keep up in the Julien system for young players.  Guys with huge talent like Hamilton and Seguin didn't measure up all the way, and guys that developed the huge talent like Krecji and Marchand paid their AHL dues and their NHL dues before becoming what they are now.

The jury is out on Caron.  I certainly see more hope in him than I did for Hamill, Bourque and Joe Colborne.

I wish I could have seen Caron and Soderberg in for when Campbell went out and for Thornton in the finals.

Caron has higher expectations because he was a 1st rounder who saw time in the NHL as an 18 year old. People forget that being a 1st rounder doesn't automatically mean you're supposed to be a scorer. Raffi Torres went 5th overall and surely nobody was expecting him to challenge for his team's scoring lead. Caron is still only 22 but people wonder why he's unable to play regularly on one of the world's best hockey teams. How many players that age or younger become regular contributors on a contender?  I don't have the exact numbers but I know it's very few.

I have no problem with Caron (or Soderberg, for that matter) on the 4th. The idea of "he's a 3rd line player not a 4th" should only be reserved for the Jagr and Morrow-types, not someone with less than one full year in the bigs.

Ask Marchand and Paille how they liked their time on the Merlot line. Good things come to those who earn it. So out Caron or Soder there, let them play some shifts. If either one excels, then hooray for developing a guy. If either one stinks, it's not like they're gonna kill you being on that line and not producing. They WOULD kill you being on the 3rd and not producing, though.

I think you already know what you've got in Peverly and Daug and it's not all that, so I'd rather see what the new guys can bring to the 4th and let them force the Bruins to give them more ice time if deserved.

Not quite yet for Daug, almost, but not quite.

He is 25 years old, still relatively young.  And I think his time in the KHL set his career back some.  I think there is a possibility that he evolves further, not much of a chance, but I think there is some.  In other words, I don't think he's peaked yet.   I think the odds are only 25% or so in his favor.  Not a big chance, but I think it's there.  I certainly think Peverly has, the most I would expect to see from him is that he equals his past best/better performances.

I don't have the same level of confidence in Caron as you do Dez, but I'm in agreement in not giving up on a 22 yr old 1st rounder. When I think of players that took some time to adjust & teams that didn't show enough patience; there's 3 names that come to mind. Oates, Hull & St. Louis.

Like I said, the fact he played some as an 18 year old has seemed to work against him due to raised expectations.

Funny how this became about Caron.

I don't have huge hopes for Caron.  I don't think he had an offensive game, to be honest.  No "plus" offensive attributes from the forecheck to his shot.  Hamill became a pretty savvy positional guy in his final year, too, and they shipped him out because he was expected to do more than keep goals off the board.  In fact, every regular is expected to out score Shawn Thornton.  Caron hasn't done that.  I think he'll get a one year deal, and the expectation that he will compete out of camp.  Remember that they had him pencilled in last year before the lockout game him a chance to shoot himself in the groin by failing miserably to lead and produce in teh AHL.

    Are you not entertained?!?!

Wasn't he injured when the NHL season started? I personally put far more stock in his late season play than I do his horrid start. He statistically outplayed Spooner in the playoffs by a wide margin.
