Dawes? Is he still in the NHL? you have to be a pretty big lowlife to be bought out of your 850k salary by Calgary of all places....

Stuart pushed out Sopel and Mtl's D is in the toilet so they can use him. He's a tough player who may make it hard to crash the net.

Dawes is another small forward...he'll fit in nicely in Mtl...or Hamilton!

Not impressed by the trade but what is impressive is Montreal keeps winning with all their injuries. Teams that find ways to win while depleted, ala Bruins taking out 103 point Buffalo last season, does impress me but the trade doesn't depth move is all.

It's a band aid trade to help their D, nothing more.

    Good move by the Habs.
Sopel as he showed last year can play big minutes when called upon.  dawes is a speed demon and can play in the league.  As a 4th liner he isnt a bad option.  he works hard and has speed.

Sopel was pretty good in VAN...is he terrible now?

Scabs will have to deal again, they are over the cap.

Sopel is past his prime and  has a bad back. That said, he is a good depth defenceman but do not expect much in the way of production, toughness, or big minutes...

Sopel looked very good with the Hawks last year in their cup run.  As JMW points out it is a depth move.

Ben Maxwell went 49th in the 2006 Draft.

    At 50?  Milan Lucic.

    Ouch!

I agree ....i am surprised too that the habs are still winning but it is just a matter of time before they are at best a 500 team for the rest of the season.

Jaroslav Spacek likely out for the rest of the year.  Not sure what his injury is.  Likely knee.  Habs are playing decent considering they lost Markov, Gorges, and now Spacek.

But now with Sopel, they have 3 UFA defencemen at end of the season.  Hamrlik and Gill are the others.  Markov and Gorges are RFA's.  Who do you sign?

Way to put it in perspective. I am sure many GM's are shaking their heads over that one....
