    New Playoff format for 2014

It is time to admit that both the Ranger and Penguin series were really not that interesting to watch.   So, instead of fans being stuck watching the" same old, same old" teams play each other from the same division, the lineup for 2014 will be:

    Round one:

1st in West plays 8th in East

2nd in West plays 7th in East

..... and so on down the list..........

This will make for much more interesting Playoff hockey for the fans of hockey. THe NHL needs to get out of their "divisional" mentality and bring some variety into the game. Whether they know it or not, it would bring more interest into the sport as a whole. Remember, familiarity breeds boredom.

Silly post.  The Penguins series wasn't interesting??  What??

Watching the "same old" rivalries is what makes it great.  I want Montreal in the playoffs, not Phoenix.  So does everyone else.  People want Pitts-Philly, Chi-Det, etc.

    This is idiotic.

Fletch, counter-intuitive to your argument but Detroit won't be seeing Chicago unless they both make the finals.

Only 2 changes I'd like to see:

Given that there is an inbalance in the conferences, let the top 7 from each conference make it in, but the final 2 spots go to the next highest point totals regardless of conference. Seems more fair to the East this way.

Also would like to shuffle the deck 1-4 seeds league-wide regardless of conference for the last two rounds, so we could get matchups like BOS-MTL or STL-CHI for the Cup.

Good point.  Forgot about the move.  You get the idea though -- rivalries are good.

If every team finished next season with their same points (adjusted of course to an 82 game schedule) as they did this year the first round matchups unjder the new format they're bringing in would be

    Montreal - Ottawa

    Boston - Toronto

Pittsburgh - Detroit (They'd get the crossover)

    Washington - Rangers

    Anaheim - San Jose

    Vancouver - LA

    Chicago - Winnipeg

    St. Louis - Minnesota

Those all seem like excellent matchups to me, and well worth watching.
