It's so flamboyant male listening to showtunes.

He's not a buddy.  He's not a friend.  He's not a relative.  Even in those circumstances, men calling other men by pet names is Liberace DVD collection.

I don't really care if someone is keen to call him "Iggy."  I usually hear it from children, people talking to children, people like my mother-in-law who don't really know what's going on when they watch the games....  That's my association for non-players who use cute nicknames for star players.  I like making up names for players as editorial commentary.  Maybe that's the same thing for some people.

To me, Iggy sounds a little too "cute" for an old school power forward. I kind of like his first name...Jerome. If the announcers had run with that right from the get go, he might have become one of those "one name" people like Bono, Sting, Cher...and Jerome.

Cedfano, Fat and Sweet Hands are nicknames that are used here to make us laugh.

Iggy, Bergy, Soupy, Seids, Marchy and the rest are pet names that show familiarity or affection. I don't know them and/or love them, so I won't use these names.

I find it odd that nicknames for pro athletes is frowned upon by some around here but boasting of porn star actions in a movie theatre is cool.

My thinking must be messed up. I can't wait to grow up !

oh yeah. that's why i had blocked one poster in the past. for whatever reason, that block was removed. i will re-apply that block now.

you know what bothers me more than people using nicknames? being associated with people (even just by following the same sports teams) who are so miserable that they comment repeatedly about how much it bothers them that people use nicknames for players. i mean the fact that it bothers you in the first place is bad enough. that says more about you than it does about them. but the fact that you repeatedly choose to express it publicly makes it even worse.

i wouldn't have anything to do with such a person in real life, so i won't here either. block on.

Seidenberg, Soderberg, Eriksson are a lot of fun to type out on an IPhone keypad (that's the the size of stamp). I can barely see the screen as it is.  I gotta go with Seids, Carl and Loui and not feel responsible for what you find irritating.

If it's only a case of convenience, why use the nickname that the players seem to use among themselves?  PB, DK, JI - isn't that more convenient?

If NAS really hated me, he'd type the 007, too.

When I have a couple quaffs with my brother and he begins to preach I call him names like shitehead or dumas.  Is that the same? Hehe.  The Calgary fans dug thier stadium out after the flood, if they wish to honor Iginla as Iggy, well I don't care.  If he helps the Bs win a Stanley Cup, I might say Iggy.  The Tuuooooka chant included.
