It took you 20 games to come to the conclusion that he's a fine backup center?

No, I think Fav has the potential to become a starting Center in the NBA.

But his poor defense is keeping him from reaching that potential.

Too early to proclaim he will just be a career backup.
Not saying he'll be a career backup ... just not the starting center for the C's anytime soon (1-2 yrs).

    Totally agree!

But wozzy will tell you otherwise.

wozzy will tell you that Fav is in fact a starting Center but Brad Stevens is just holding him back.

I can't vouch for his stupidity, only yours!

So it was premature to say that Fav is already better than Asik and he's already a legit NBA starting Center even when Fav didn't play a single NBA regular season game yet.
Fav: 16 mpg, 6ppg, 5rpg, .5 apg, 1.1 bpg, shooting 33% from three point land

Asik: 18 mpg, 4ppg, 7rpg, .4 apg, 0.4 bpg, has never shot a three in his life

Fav is a rookie, Asik is in his 4th season, you're a knob.

A 20 game rookie sample size on a team rotating players with zero continuity isn't a sample size worth discussing.  Take the time to google "continuity," then go post in the basket weaving forum.

To say fav is a rookie isn't really fair is it?  Hasn't he played euro league a while?  I know ricky rubio came in as a "rookie" too, but both had lots of professional and international experience.

Nobody put a gun to your head to post that Fav is a legit starting NBA Center and that he's better than Asik.

Right now every Celtic fan already knows that Fav is just a backup Center.

And you're making excuses that the Celtics are rotating players?

    HAHAHA
Fav is better than Asik, Asik has two more minutes a game than Fav and Fav is still putting up better numbers.  Fav has played 20 games in the NBA and is still learning, Asik is in year four and riding the pine.

The Celtics are rotating players, trying to "find an identity" as coach Stevens has said.  Ainge said as much before the season started.  It's only an excuse if it's not true, it is.

By season's end Fav will be our regular starting center unless they trade for an all star, bar injury he has and always will be better than Asik who is a complementary player at best.

I have to agree. Favs stats are better.

PER 36 Minutes is a better judge:

    ASIK

    8.7 pts, 13.3 reb, 0.8 ast, 0.5 stl, 0.8blk, 2.3 tov, eFG% .472

    FAV
    12.6pts, 10.4 reb, 1.1 ast, 1.0 stl, 1.1blk, 1.4 tov, eFG% .465

Asik has been the better rebounder this season, which shouldn't be a surprise. Favarani needs to improve his rebounding. Fav is superior slightly in all other aspects.

But, I do agree with Fierce in that Asik is putting up worse career numbers than the last few years, probably because of his situation. Still, this back and forth is so freaking childish. Both are good players. Why don't you listen to me and root for Danny to make a trade to get BOTH. They plus Sully and KO would be a fun and talented front court

Ainge won't trade a bag of old sweat socks for Aisk, if he did Fav would start over him.  Fav is better than Asik.

After 20 games, Fav played all 20 and started in 8 of them.

He's currently averaging 5.7 ppg, 4.7 rpg, and 1.1 bpg.

So it was premature to say that Fav is already better than Asik and he's already a legit NBA starting Center even when Fav didn't play a single NBA regular season game yet.

Can Fav be a starting Center in the NBA?

    Maybe.

But we have wait until he plays a couple more seasons.

    Fav's biggest weakness is defense.

Until he improves in that area, he's not going to be a starter in the NBA.
Another excellent post by FIERCE34 , Fav is not on Asik's level and he may never be, but it looks like Danny Ainge found another keeper.....a big tough YOUNG big man with game (scarce in Boston the last 20 years or so....) , what's not to like about Favorani ? Sure his defense needs work, name one rookie other than Dennis Rodman who was a defensive monster 20 games into his career.

The Celtics have put together an impressive young core of talented, high character , BASKETBALL PLAYERS (not just jumpers and runners)

    Rondo

    Bradley

    Sullinger

    Olynyk

    Crawford

    Favorani

Very nice collection young talent and a rising coaching star in Brad Stevens.......8-12 with all the momentum in the world , this team will probably make the playoffs and they will have two of the top 20 picks in the Draft....plus that nice $10.3M trade exception......

The only shocker is Gerald Wallace playing 30 minutes a night and not scoring any points , figured he'd be a solid 10-15 points a game guy.

But I was right on the money about the Brooklyn Nets.....they are terrible. Sure they will rally to make the playoffs but they will not get out of the first round and KG will probably retire and Pierce will come back to the Celtics for $5M next season....
