    Amnesty???

I was wondering if teams are allowed to use it on retired players. We have Shaq and Sheed's contractt taking up some of our cap space.

    Re: Amnesty???

Yes, but this does bring up an interesting question.  Are Sheed and Shaq being paid?  My guess is that they have a right to unretire and that is why this is counting against the cap.  After all, at the end of 2009-2010 season, there was lot of talk of how the Celts could try to trade Sheed to somebody seeking cap space before he files his retirement papers.

Used to be that a retired player could un-retire after a 1-year gap and be included in trades for salary match purpose.  Is that still a possibility?  Can Danny use something like this.

    Re: Amnesty???

The 1 year gap if true, would mean 7 mil of cap to help make deals work. Rashweed has been gone for a year and his cap hit 7 mil. Trading BB for Tyson Chandler would be sweet.

Can we drop KG, then resign him and prorate his salary out over three years?

If we do not have anyone we "need" to use the amnesty on, what about trading one of the big three for something we want, and something nobody wants, and then use the amnesty on it.  Amnesty is a "tradeable" asset.  Say an article where NJ is going to try to get Dwight Howard partially by using amnesty to create space to pickup a bad contract from Orlando.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Amnesty??? : The problem with that is you have to remove 2 of the Big 3. Removing only one of the Big 3 won't help much as the Celts are way over the cap.

Won't help when?  I agree it might not help much this year, but what about future years.  For example(fictious).  Trade KG for brook lopez, a number 1 pick, and an amnesty case.  This year we are without KG, which is not an upgrade, but in future years we get Lopez and a first instead of nothing.  Amnesty does not have to be totally about cap $ this year...it can be a tradeable asset.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Amnesty??? : Why would the Nets trade for KG when they can directly trade Brook Lopez plus draft picks for Dwight Howard? Remember, a trade should help both teams. The Nets are one of those teams under the cap, they don't need KG's contract or KG for that matter.

What part of "For example(ficticious) didn't you get.  Some teams probably have more than 1 player who has a bad multi-year contract.  The C's do not have even 1.  The C's can take on someone else's mistake, and wash it away, in exchange for something the C's can use either/both now and/or in the future.  Picks, players, etc.
