Brooks' offensive abilities have always been able to produce points in the NBA.

It's his defense that's keeping him off the court.

Re: Brooks Tears It Up In D-League!

Not sure that Brooks's time in the D League is really measurable regarding his chances to succeed better in the NBA as the D League is not chuck full of high quality defenders.

Brooks's strengths show well in a lower level league, and these strengths may also hide his weaknesses as well.  When we see the stats you listed, do we even think about how well (or poorly) he played defense in Maine? He has been able to score at probably every level of basketball that he has ever played.

Still probably good for him to play well for the Red Claws as it may either give him more of an opportunity in Boston or get another team to buy into his big stats which could play into making him more valuable in a trade.

We have to know that Stevens was not just not playing Brooks because he did not like the way Brooks tied his sneakers.   Stevens and his staff have had since September to decide if Brooks could help the Celtics.

“They play a couple of games in a short amount of time; it’s a good opportunity to do that, and he’s going to get to play a lot, and a lot of minutes,” Stevens said Wednesday after practice at the team’s Waltham facility. “Sometimes as you get into this, the opportunities to condition become less and less. So it will be good for him to kind of get that feel back. And he’ll be back soon, I’m sure. It’s just a matter of utilizing that NBA D-League opportunity that we have as well as we can.”

If Brooks had stayed with Boston throughout January, he likely would have needed to put in a lot of work by himself. The Celtics have 17 games during the month, including a long Western Conference road trip, and should have little time for practice.

Stevens said he told Brooks he should take advantage of the opportunity. The coach also coordinated with the Red Claws staff where the Celtics would like to see Brooks improve.
