Name a team that would want to just take on the $17m salary that remains on his contract.

Just because you don't want him and he is not a very good player doesn't mean that Boston will be able to pawn him off on another team.
Cavs and Rockets are teams way under the cap who can use a backup PF. Offer them a draft pick to sweeten the deal.

The Celts can also replace Bass with Lee. There are many ways to do it.

Bass, Lee, and Green will total 19.4m in total salaries.

Come on, Tommy, I already gave an article where it says the Celts are involved in the trade talks for Rudy Gay. It's not like this is something I came up on my own.

What do you expect from a Laker troll???

But is Gay worth the Money?? Is he PP's replacement??? Not sure if he is that good or just a little more polished than Green...

If the C's had Gay and Pierce, hopefully they would allow him to operate the way Pierce does. Gay is not a player that needs Rondo to create for him all the time. He would need to be allowed to create early on in the shot clock the way Pierce does

    Rudy Gay is worth it.

He's a big time scorer, something the Celtics would really need once Pierce retires.

Right now he reminds me of Reggie Lewis, but bigger and stronger.
Fierce, I don't see that. Just a minor upgrade over Jeff Green for double the money.  Forget Gay.  Try for Gortat.  Lee, Collins and draft picks.

do we really need another gruff personality to match rondo's?  at mega bucks paycheck?  i really don't think so.  this team needs to get big, not medium sized.  mozgov or another ham and egger big who can clunk around and get rebounds and give KG a break from doing all the hard work should be our primary focus.
acie

This is a move for the future.

Pierce can be waived next season, his contract is not guaranteed for next season.
well, i guess i'm still thinking of trying to win it "one more time"  and not seeing how gay fits in.  we are limited in what we can do this year, but if we can get an upgrade over bass plus a big man with an extra bonus of dumping jeff green on someone then that would be great

but "the future" shall not brighten if we pick up pieces that are already at full value, if not over-valued

Seriously, what is your obsession with Gay ? Of all ideas on what we need, a no D playing streak shooting tweener was not the first thing I thought of. A team that is a serious contender wants to trade a starter? Have you stopped and thought why?

Not for nothing, until about 3/12 , 99% of posters on this board thought AB was not even worthy to play in the D league. I said he was a victim of circumstances. Now Jeff Green who has as much as or more than AB talent and upside, I'm saying again he is a victim of circumstances. Gay @ 17.8 for this season and next is a cap killer since ironically his salary matches his pt production. Sorry with the other inside options he should be averaging more than 18,6,2 per game and thats at 37 minutes a game. Add 3 minutes mathematically to Greens numbers in OKC and WOW they match at 8 mil less!!! Seriously you are an obsessive compulsive by nature, but, seriously, do the math. I know he p,ayed at BC but........

That makes a bad rebounding team even worse.

    Actually, no.

Gay is a better rebounder than Bass.
no he isn't. 5.8 in 36 minutes isn't as good as 5.2 in 26 minutes.  Not even close.

For that money I want a 20-25 ppg guy, not a 15-20 guy.

Green should be able to approach those numbers with 35+ mpg.

In other words, Bass is not that bad a rebounder for his size.

Yep. if Green got 35 minutes he would get you 17 and 5 on 40 percent shooting.

There you go. No need for Gay.

We need a fecking big. Maybe not if Wilcox could play 20-25 mpg.

Bass is just a career 4.5 rebounds per game guy.

Gay has a career average of 5.7 rebounds per game.

Bass and Green, combined, are averaging 17.6 points per game. Both are also being paid 14-15m.

Right now Gay is not averaging 20 ppg because the Griz have 3 other players averaging 13 points or more.

One very good player always trumps two good players. It's the quality, not the quantity.

And why worry about money when it will not come out of our pockets.
I get the feeling based on the recent improvement in the team that a trade won't be coming until Feb.  Remember Doc and Ainge have been waiting for the roster to perform since Nov.  The signs of life only help them make a better deal later.  The big man issue is the only thing that will make them act faster, that is if the team dealing the big man wants to get it done sooner than later.
