When a team initiates a sign-and-trade agreement, it must trade the signed player immediately; teams cannot renege on the arrangement and keep the player for themselves, using the other team's financial situation to leverage the signee into a more favorable deal for themselves. Also, the contract signed before the trade must be for at least 3 years, with the first year guaranteed.

Idiot! That article said the said player WOULD HAVE TO BE SIGNED FOR 3 YEARS WITH THE 1ST YEAR BEING GUARANTEED.

THAT MEANS PJ BROWN OR SCOTT POLLARD WOULD HAVE TO BE SIGNED FOR 3 YEARS WITH THE 1ST YEAR BEING GUARANTEED. READ THAT ARTICLE AGAIN.

No sheet, for one year ... swap salaries and nobody's a loser. We get Rudy, they get our draft pick and renounce players and players get paid 1 year for helping out. It's all an exercise Fierce of what could be done if the C's didn't want to trade Sheed or any signed players ... you get it?

In the original post I said they could just give a draft pick and Scal or even Pollard or Brown (if the C's intended to resign Scal for themselves or use him in another trade).

Now go change your name to ConnecingtRod or Fierce and harrass your other self ... clown.

The Celtics are over the cap, they can't sign Brown or Pollard unless they use the vet's minimum.

Why waste your time arguing if you yourself don't believe that the Celtics will actually do what you're implying. It's just a possibility, right?

Why would Portland give up Rudy Fernandez and pay PJ Brown and or Scott Pollard the veterans minimum for one year?
You could pick any free agent names and sign them at the veteran minimum and do a sign and trade. Portland isn't taking retired junk for Fernandez.

Light Sabre, I find it interesting that after making definitive-sounding assertions on another thread about this (complete with large and bolded type faces), you are now showing some doubt about the matter.

Rameakap, making assertions without providing anything in the way of proof is not the least bit convincing.  How about giving us the CBA language that you think makes what Mployee8 was suggesting impossible.  To this point, in my judgment, over the course of the last month he has displayed a far more detailed and comprehensive knowledge of the relevant provisions of the CBA than any of his detractors.

I have no doubt that the Celtics will not sign PJ Brown or Scott Pollard just so that they can use them as trade filler. While it's not impossible the world will end tomorrow is also not impossible. The point is why do something that is not practical.

Sheed and Lafayette or Gaffney will work if Portland trades Rudy Fernandez and Joel Przybilla in return. No need to sign another player because the Celtics can trade Gaffney or Lafayette.

Let me emphasize that while it's possible the world will end tomorrow it's highly unlikely. Just like the Celtics signing PJ Brown and Scott Pollard then using them as trade filler is close to impossible.

The Celtics only have the vet's minimum, don't tell me they will use that on PJ Brown or Pollard. Once the vet's minimum is used the Celtics can't use that again until next season.
