The odds of rebuilding thru the draft so quickly are ridiculously poor. The one team you can name has done squat with the 2nd best player on the planet ... Nuff Said!
Danny would have to get lucky ala the Cavs hopping over other lottery teams and that hasn't ever happened other than being the team others hopped over. Play your hand out and let the chips fall where they will and take what the Hoop Gods offer by way of the draft cuz you, I and the C's have no power over the dropping of the ping pong balls.
So if opportunity knocks by way of a Turner trade, you make it. If you can move Hump, Lee, Bogans, Bradley, etc to upgrade your talent ... you do it!
Period ... End of Story!
Yes, but don't forget that Sully is a steal after Ainge got him with the #21 pick.
You and Lame rame wanted PJ3 and Moultrie.
The only reason why a lot of us here want a top 3 pick is because it gives the Celts a bigger chance of getting a star player.
Even if the Celts don't get a top 3 player, Ainge still has a lot of options if the Celts end up getting a pick in the 6-10 range.
That's many of us here don't want the Celts to win 30 or more games.
And of course if you can get Evan Turner at a bargain you do it.
But the Sixers will not just throw away Turner for garbage.
1) First of all let's get something straight. Rame and I did not want PJ3 or Moultrie instead of Sully. After Sully was picked we insisted that either of those two s/b taken next instead of Melo .... Is Melo a Celtic today? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did you want Melo? YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2) To say that picking in the top three of the draft assures a team of getting a star player is a crock of bull! All one has to do is go back five months to Clevelands pick of Anthony Bennett. The C's have never fared well in the lottery (3rd is the best pick I can remember and that was supposed to be a #1 pick after tanking and embarrassing the team/owners). I can think of more stars that came to the C's by trade vs draft ...
Parish (Incl pick #3 to get McHale), DJ, Allen, KG & Rondo (C's trade Cavs 2007 1st rd pk for RR) all came by way of trade ... the Draft Lottery? Let's see ... Pierce, Billups, Johnson, Walker?, Bias? ... Maybe 1 or 2 of those guys were ever a star for the C's. NO CONTEST!!!
3) And for that you don't want the C's to win 30 games? Good luck! We already have 7 ... I see them winning half their games in Dec or another 6 w/o RR, so that's 13 with four months to go. If you're right about 5/mo thereafter that would be another 20 for a total of 33!!! And you're assuming RR won't add much of an improvement and that Ainge will trade away talent rather than for talent. If you are wrong about one or both of those points then 33 wins will just be a memory.
4) There's already been talk of Turner for Waiters (Waiters is garbage compared to Turner) and also Marion (Expiring Contract) for Turner with our 2014 2nd rd pick ... More garbage! Nothing should surprise you when trades happen ... remember Miami trading Beasley (2008 #2 lottery pick) to MN for a 2011 2nd rounder to create cap space? Now that's garbage!!!
