Is it time to trade Big Baby?

I think Big Baby has elevated his game alot this year and has seemed to mature off the court as well, however, with KG out for the last 2 weeks I've seen some things in Baby's game that show that he is a limited, albeit good NBA player. Forget the entire rest of the league but it really only comes down to the Lakers and Heat and the potential matchups and in both cases I can see Doc going big and limiting Baby's minutes. Of course when this happens and when everybody is healthy and the Celtics can go 12 deep what kind of effect will Baby's contract have on his attitude? Will he just shoot everytime to get his numbers up for next year?I definitely think the Celtics can win without Baby in the Playoffs: although I do like him. What do you think the Celtics could get for him?

I would trade Davis to the Wiz for Blacthe in a New York minute!!

Otherwise, I get the impression this guy thinks he is going to warrant a big contract.  And, as you say, he has elevated his game, but not to the Elite range.  I just have a bad feeling he is going to "tonyallen" us.

Re: Is it time to trade Big Baby?

I think they should keep him.  He's a solid bench player and people are talking about him as a possible 6th man of the year.  He's playing too many minutes, per Rivers assesment of him, and that's affecting his play.  He's someone who can come in the game off the bench and change the game.  I don't think it is a matter of effort with him, we all saw him dive after a loose ball last night like he was going after a fumble.  He's doing a good job filling in, but he's a role player that comes off the bench and a pretty good one at that.  It does look like so many games so close together is causing fatigue accross the whole team, plus people being out causes people to have to play more minutes too.  I get your viewpoint, but I really think he's very solid off the bench and wants to elevate his game even more - but, he's best as a bench player.  He's also proven that he is not afraid of playing in a big moment, in big games, and seems to really elevate himself for those game similar to Ray Allen getting up for big games.  They did lose 2 games in a row and the whole team played bad.  I'll be the 1st person to give Davis crap for shooting and missing lots of jump shots, but that's what his coach is telling him to do.  Those are the open shots that KG would take, so now Davis gets them.  I agree that Davis seems unable to dominate a game as a starter, but he is a game changer off the bench.

Thanks Goodness Doc and Danny have more patience than the fans.  Fans would have traded Ray last year before the trade deadline and we would have never made it to the finals without him.  Some want to trade away Rondo.  Others want to trade BBD.   I, for one, want to see this team together and healthy as I think they'll be championship quality.

Let's deal with Baby when the season ends.  My guess is that Danny will resign him but even if he doesn't and has to let Baby go, we'll be able to get someone else as the key sixth man next year.

How dare you suggest that the C's move BBD. He's our best man off the bench. In order to win #18, he must stay.  :-)

    (dripping sarcasm)

Well I've gotten off the "trade BBD" kick for now. It's crystal clear now that we need KG and BBD is nothing more than a backup PF on this team. In his 5th man role he's great, anything more than that and I'd rather have a backup SF who can defend on the perimeter. (Posey, Battier, Wallace...take your pick).

The NBA is the epitome of you get what you pay for unless of course when GMs make bad contracts for overrated players.

Baby makes about $3million per year which is basically minimum wage for the NBA.

Please explain to me what an overweight, immature, tweener is worth.

Are you on crack or do you think Denver's GM is on crack. They are entertaining deals for younger players, multiple draft picks, unloading their bad contracts along with Melo, and cash. Which deal would YOU take [that is if you wanted to keep your phony, baloney jobs, gentlemen!]

Replacing BBD with a backup SF is a stupid idea. JO is not a PF anymore, so if the Celtics don't have KG on the floor who plays PF?

Why would you trade a guy who is one of the best back up bigs in the NBA?  Who would you get back for him that would do a better job?  I have been the first to point out that he has been lacking on the boards as of late, but in his normal role he does his job and plays within the system.

    It isn't going to happen.

Ha.  yeah I noticed man.  I've just been ignoring it.  Camby actually can still rebound and play some D but the guy is an injury waiting to happen and his offensive game is non existent.

Agreed.  BUT he is better than both Bradley and Daniels (at the point) right now.  I think he will be back once West comes back.  In the meantime, we need to find out what Wafer can do, IMO!

That is why both BB and Nate are back ups and not starting..They are each limited but specialist role players. (undersized)Your asking them to replace an all star player and a hall of famer, and perform at their level. If they were at that level, they woulnt be coming off the  bench in the first place. Once, they get back to their respective roles, they will use their strenghts and be more effective and productive for the team. But if Danny can fetch a budding all star caliber player for either one of them, I say do it!

Hoping once Delonte gets healthy he can back up both guard positions. I think he will be a key contributor down the stretch...I hope. He looked very good the few games he was back and thus he'll be able to knock Nate out as the bachup point guard. The C's need West back soon.

The closest thing to a player like BBD is Brandon Bass, 11.2 ppg and 5.4 rpg. Any of you guys think the Celtics are better off with Brandon Bass?

Sheed will be the backup PF

Despite what his agent says about him not coming back. Well why is Sheed still living in Boston?? It's cold, snowy and why wouldn't he not go back to Detroit or Philly?

You really think Sheed is going to be better than BBD at this point in time?

People complain about BBD's poor rebounding. How about Sheed and his 4.1 rpg last season, is that an upgrade from the 5.4 rpg BBD is getting now?
