K.G, Pierce, and Rondo will once again be the soul of the Celtics, valiantly fighting to reach the mountaintop. But ultimately they won’t make it because LeBron James will be there unwilling to give up his turf. http://redsarmy.com/2012/07/30/danny-ainge-did-a-lot-but-did-he-do-enough/   I think the Celts will be a great regular season team this coming season. The problem is in the playoffs. The Spurs and Bulls the last 2 seasons have already proven that even if you're #1 in the regular season, it doesn't mean it will carry over into the playoffs.

concord27 is saying the Celts didn't address this problem. Not totally true.   By removing Ray and JO the Celts got younger. That means more hustle from younger players. Celts have more chance of getting those 50-50 balls with Lee and Wilcox, Bass, or even Sully than if the Celts had Ray and JO with Pierce, KG, and Rondo.    The main reason why the Celts didn't get a big who can rebound, like Kris Humphries, is because the Celts simply couldn't afford them. Humphries got 12m per and Ilyasova got 9m per. Totally out of the Celts price range. The only way the Celts could have gotten those players is if the Celts renounced all their FAs to free up cap room.   Overall the Celts got better in rebounding by just becoming a younger team. Right now it's true the Celts will not be like the Lakers when it comes to rebounding. But as long as the Celts are a decent rebounding team, then the Celts will always be a threat to every NBA team on any given night.

Ilyasova is solid, but he's not All-Star caliber.   Jeff Green has more upside and could be an All-Star player some day. That's if he can play SF.

    http://www.celticsblog.com/2012/3/12/2864123/NBA-trade-rumor-celtics-and-lakers-discussed-rondo-for-gasol-last-week

The Lakers are unwilling to trade Pau Gasol for Rondo, making a deal with Boston unlikely before the trade deadline Thursday.

"Unless they give up Gasol, they're not going to get a top-level point guard," said a person familiar with the situation but not authorized to discuss it publicly.

That's how low Rondo's value is right now? Ugh!

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Rondo is A Perfect Fit for the Lakers : I am with you Fierce this team needs a big change.  Rondo if we can get a major piece is worth trading. Gasol for Rondo and change is one way to go.  I heard Ian Thomsen of ESPN on with Michael Felger saying the Celtics are looking at Portland, Sacramento, and Utah as teams most likely in a Rondo trade. The BB is so filled with vacillation and is still shellshocked from the Perkins trade they just don't understand what next year looks like.  This team is so unable to rebound nothing is going to pull them out of this stupor unless a change with Rondo is made.  Stick with him and we go the lottery route or an 8th seed at best.

If we can't get a big man for Rondo then we should go for a lottery pick for Rondo.

Ever since the Clips got Kenyon Martin the Clips are playing him alongside Blake Griffin in crunch time.    The Clips are also struggling since Billups went down.    Randy Foye is not the answer if the Clips want to go far in the playoffs.    Maybe this is an opportunity to get DeAndre Jordan for Ray Allen and the 1st round pick from the Perk trade.

The reason why Ainge is having a hard time getting what he wants for Rondo is because other GMs keep asking him, "If you were stranded in the desert which would you prefer having, a bag of chips or a ton of bricks?" Ha Ha

Re: It's NOT as bad as you think

Fierce, you have one FATAL problem with thinking we are going to get rid of Bass.  Nobody wants a dead body with no heart and soul on its team for 6 million dollars a year.  I don't know when or if the "intervention" is scheduled to slap some sense into Doc Rivers, but it's got to be soon.  He has squandered the talents of bass, terry and lee and jeff green is probably on suicide watch.

When everything goes bad like this, you need to look at the coach.  sometimes it's a good coach who the players have gone deaf too- like stan van gundy in orlando.  other timees it's a horrible coach like rivers who simply rode the coattails of the big 3 to a championship that they won all by themselves and doc has never contributed ONE THING to this team if you really are honest in assessing him as a coach.

the further away we've gotten from elite, the faster we have fallen because the man has no imagination and no idea how to deal with talent.  we have UNTRADEABLE CHUM on our roster right now thanks to doc- lee, terry, bass, green.  if you looked at their career stats you'd think good trade bait to get something done.  now look at what they are doing this year.  stinko.  end of story.  end of any promising trade.s
