Nope, I am saying that losing finalists is an achievement, unlike missing the playoffs...

When you are cornered, move the goalpost again...

You are bragging about a lottery pick would get you the best regular season record in the east. That's not even reaching the finals.
In the real world Staples Center has 12 Laker championship banners hanging on the rafters.  At the TD Garden there are 17 Celtic championship banners hanging on the rafters.  It is what it is.
    Posted by Fiercest34
In the real world teams are judged by more than sheer # of banners.

    It is what it is.

They don't have banners for the 22-year drought, but people who make judgement don't forget that.

Ask your fellow fans about that. They seemed to appreciate what the Celtics did in 2010.

Already reached 17, by your accounting.

Plus if the Celtics that great, why would they have a 22-year drought?

And that's why you are an oddball with no support in this forum. Fortunately other Celtic fans have more sense than you do.

And because of the accolades the Celtics received below, that tells us reaching the finals an additional 15 times (albeit losing) is something to brag about...

existentialparquet: I've never been prouder of our Celtics. They battled extremely hard. It didn't end up going their way.

Soxpeat: Count me in as being proud of the Celtics.  They played their hearts out.

LloydDobler: Absolutely. They left everything on the floor tonight. Just couldn't make any shots is all, and I'd rather lose that way than from a lack of effort.
I'm every bit as proud to be a Celtics fan tonight as I was two years ago.

Karllost: Celts did much better than I thought when the playoffs started.

mbrann: Celts pulled off a few magical plays at the end but not quite enough. Although they missed the championship, I will never forget this post season. Bittersweet.

rpn313: No one in this forum would have (truly, seriously, honestly) thought 6 weeks ago that we would be in a game 7 for the championship.  And here we were tonight, a two point game with less than a minute remaining.
    ...
I hope there will be a lot of fans at Logan or outside TD to welcome home our warriors.  They deserved it.

BostonboyinCA: Yes, count me in as one who is very proud of our Celts

DaveM1967a: Good thread.  Great season.  I'm proud to be a Celtic fan.  Not sure when we'll be hear again.  Painful painful loss. But the Celts team can hold their head high.

CelticPridePinoy: I wore my celtics larry bird jersey in a well known las vegas casino and eventhough there are a lot of california lakers fans celebrating after the lost (man they are rowdy and rude now i know why most casino employees dont like laker fans) Im still proud, very proud as I walk out of the huge sports viewing venue. Its a valiant effort.

bostonian128: As sport is reduced to entertainment, we had a chance to be reminded of how much more it can be.  The timbers of this ship are built of indestructable character and I am very lucky to be a passenger.

fiorelladad: I am so proud of my guys in green. Congrats to the Fakers, back to back. Still I feel like 1987 all over again, claw and scratch against all currents to just die on the shore. As it is I prefer to go out like this instead like all the front running teams we beat to get here. It was a 4 point game in a game 7 and not a 39 point blowout on a game 6 to clinch. I will cherish this postseason as well as the scalding we gave them in 08.

celticsfanmx: Indeed it's very sad they lost. But on the other hand they just showed us what they're capable of, even in the conditions they started the post season. If they didn't become champions now it's because something was missing, and believe me, it wasn't heart.

Proud Celtics fan until the end!

mataymay03: I love my Cletics sooo much and Im really proud of what they have done this year.

bilalkazmi: Frankly, we had the toughtest playoff schedule out of any team in the NBA.  We met Cavs, Magic and Lakers without having home court on our side.  And the fact that we are the oldest of the 4 teams, I cant be prouder of how we competed.

zizou78: So much pride and love for the Celtics! They fought tooth and nail.

Susan250: Agreed that it was nice to see the Celtics in the finals again even though we didn't win.

tmot1234:  They left it all out on the floor. Really makes me a proud fan.
    ...
Congrats to the hated Lakers for their hard earned championship, but there's no doubt that the Celtics have earned a tremendous amount of respect around the country for what they have done this year.

BoylestonBB: Great post - Do not let this loss diminish what has been achieved, an Eastern Conference title is a great achievement.  I no longer live in Mass because of business and my last live game was to see the Celts get smashed by the Wizards in early April.  If you told me then we would win the East I would have called you mad! This team should be proud of what it has accomplished.

MitchBelgium: They deserve a lot of respect to even get here. At least we and the celtics kept beleiving and you know what. Losing an NBA finals that could have end both ways that eases the pain a lot.

BostonMan4: Does anyone know if there is any way to welcome the team back when they get to Boston? I would love to show them my support, and let them know that I still appreciate what they accomplished this season.

BiasLewis: So true it was a great run. I enjoyed it

Karllost: Knowing where we came from end of season, Im thrilled with this great playoff run.. almost winning the title.

dickalan: But the Celtics ended the season as the second best team in the NBA - not bad.

    Not bad at all.
In Response to Re: Miami punches the Lakers in the grill : Poor management, bad decisions by the front office, etc. There are a number of reasons. The important thing is the Celts bounced back and when they did they obliterated the Lakers by beating them so hard it was a Laker record for a Finals loss. Ha Ha
    Posted by Fiercest34
So, poor management/bad decisions by the front office are credit to the franchise? No, they are counted as discredit.

Yep, and the Celtics bounced back to a point that you advocate them to tank the season. Really high-bounce, huh?
Of course some of the fans think 2010 was an achievement. The Lakers only won by 4 points even when the starting Center of the Celts was out and Sheed was playing hurt. That Game 7 could have gone either way. But that's the "fellow fans" talking. In the real world David Stern doesn't give away plaques for finishing 2nd in the Finals.

In the real world real Celtics fans don't need your approval to credit the Celtics' final appearance. Tough life, huh?

I mean if you want to talk about discredit then discredit the Lakers for being the only NBA franchise that lost in the Finals every decade since the 50s. I mean the Lakers lost in every decade, ugh! And the Lakers only started winning in the 70s. Even lost to MJ in the 90s. Ugh!
    Posted by Fiercest34
Losing in the finals better than losing in the regular season (and missing the playoffs), whether you like it or not.

And the Lakers started winning in the 70s? 1949, 1950, 1952, 1953, 1954? Liar thinks you can get away?

It is more lack of good offenses. Both sides stink. There is no love for the game anymore. It is all about contract and selling products. I am 41 and I could run better than most out there. It is a shame. The NBA just does not cut it anymore. The talent is drying up faster than it can be replaced. That is the reason the old hang around. Well Ainge needs to do something for the future of this team because it surely does not lay with Pierce, Allen, KG, and JO. It is a shame they lost a few yrs ago to the Lakers. That would had really been great for the BIG 3. It might be time to move on I guess......

Like I say not all Celtics fans think making the finals is a failure. Some may think that it's a failure, but not all.

And worse yet, the majority of the posters two years ago gave credit to the Celtics. Eat it.

What does silver medal have to do with it? There is no silver medals means finalist == a failure? If so the finalist should also be in the lottery because failing teams need help in the draft...
