Orlando is watching Bynum very carefully right now.

And he is averaging 22.7 pts and 17.6 rebounds in 3 games which if he stays healthy may be what he averages for the season. He's a monster, and eventhough Orlando would be stupid not to trade Howard for him straight up, I'm not so sure now the Lakers would want to pull the trigger.

Orlando has to still pay Arenas $63m and has Turk with a terrible contract.
They were burned by the Rashard Lewis contract.
The LAST thing they are going to do is take on Joe Johnson's $107m that remains on his contract.
That contract will be a nightmare if his team is over the cap because the luxury tax penalty with increase from $1.00/$1.00 to $4.00/$1.00 for any amount over the luxury tax threshold.

Joe is averaging 16/3/2 this season and is probably the 3rd best player on his team.

So, they would take Gasol 3 x 19 and Bynum's 2 x 15 instead?  And the idea is to get rid of Turks contract at the same time!!  Ah, in 2007 Arenas signed a 6 yr 111 mill contract.  Seems to me that is up next year!!
    Nelson
    Johnson/Redick
    QRich
    Anderson/Baby
    Horford
that team is at least as good as the Magic of today!!
AND, they want to keep him anyway!!

    $19,269,308
    $20,807,922
    $22,346,536
Arenas has 3 years let on his contract.
Can't you look this up for yourself?

    2011-12: $19,269,308
    2012-13: $20,807,922
    2013-14: $22,346,536
    Total: $62,423,766

Who said they are demanding Gasol and Bynum?
I don't think Orlando has said that.
When asked if they would trade Gasol and Bynum for Howard, LA said NO.

There is no way that Orlando wants Joe Johnson.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Orlando is watching Bynum very carefully right now. : Very unlikely. Bynum is too big, his knees can't handle his body. It's just a matter of time.  Andrew Bynum has that Sam Bowie in him.

It would be a shame. Reminds me of Bill Walton's potential. He would've been on a par with Russell and the other greats except for his injuries. After seeing Bynum after these last 3 I believe he has it all to rival the great ones, but like Walton, there is that fragile history. I kind of felt that way about Oden of Portland, but he has passed that injury point of no return. Bynum is not there yet. It's like a coin flip whether he will be or not.

Bynum is a beast and I wish that he was a Celtic. We've had a lot of players who couldn't stay the pace but few if any had Bynum's talent. On that note, Ill give you PP,Garnett and Ray for Bynum. Don't worry about the salary discrepancy, we can work something out.

    Wink

    Ugh!

Bynum if healthy is an equal player to Dwight... it is just that we don't know yet if he can make it more than 55 out of 90 games a season... and he is proven himself an immature punk while Howard is very marketable.

Re: Orlando is watching Bynum very carefully right now.

But Bynum just has a team option left on his deal for next season

The Magic would be foolish to take him and be in the same situation next year as they are with Howard this year unless Bynum agrees to a max extension.

Might as well hope that LA does make the trade. Dwight has proven to be neutralized by players like Perk, Baby and one of the Collins brothers... while Kobe is in decline

Bynum avg'd 19.5 points and 11.5 boards in games 2 and 3 vs. Dallas that LA obv lost. if Howard gets them 24-13, with no Odom and 3 guys over 30 being that much older... are they really going to win a title...

    nah
