Pop benches entire starting lineup, you taking notes DOC?

Spurs looking sloppy and down big in first quarter so Pop yanks out the starting 5...  Spurs wind up  coming  back and winning...

Accountability..... nobody gets a free lunch on the Spurs... you either do your job or sit on the bench.  That goes for you too Tim Duncan and Tony Parker, superstar or not... and this was game 3 of the playoffs.

The Celtics operate on a different system,  the entitlement system.... if youre stinking the joint out youre still going to get your PT, generally speaking, if youre on the favorites list.. Contrarily, if youre a nobody bench warmer that comes in and plays great....back to the bench you go and maybe we wont see you for the next 3 games..

Two coaching philosophies...... one makes a lot of sense

Maybe. But the Celtics roster isn't good.  It is incredibly oversimplistic to say that If Doc coached a different way they would win more. Maybe they would, maybe they wouldn't. But they for certain wouldn't be as good as the spurs.  Pop has way more options.

Are you suggesting Ainge didn't do a good job of putting this team together?  Pop has more options, because he is not afraid to use them.

Pop has the ability to create way more options.

Forgive my oversimplicity... but that's what coaches do to earn their $$$.

You might be right.  Just stating the obvious. the spurs are much better than the Celtics so Pop's moves are going to be more succesful than Doc's. Just like Doc's moves are going to be more successful than Mike dunlap was with Charlotte.

The Spurs bench is one of the best in the NBA.

I do get the point that Pop isn't afraid to sit his best players, and that is relevant. My point is that the success of the move depends on the roster.

Doc will never play his bench even after they have playied well. He will never play the bench to keep the old guys minutes down either. He has his favorites and that is who he plays.

Might be related to the fact that they are deeper, have a better point guard, the best power forward in the history of the game, more accomplished big men, and more 3 point shooters, as well!

Take a look at the stats, my friend.  Doc kept KG's minutes down ALL SEASON LONG - very firmly sitting him at specific times no matter how much we were losing by.   Doc played the bench a LOT this season, even when everyone on this Board was complaining about how Green didn't have enough determination and Terry couldn't shoot and shouldn't play and Bass shouldn't get any minutes (before Sully was hurt).  Nonetheless, those players got lots of minutes.

In BBD's rookie year, look at the minutes he got in the playoffs.  Rondo, Delonte, Robinson, Baby, Posey, Terry, and others got lots of minutes over the years.  But, in the last 2 to 3 years, our bench has been hurt (and its been theyoung guys that have been hurt!!!) so we had a bench of D-League and China players.  They weren't going to win anything for us.

Look at the stats and see that I'm right.   KG's minutes were WAY down.  Green played major minutes as a sub as did Terry and lee this year.  our issue is that we have had a weak bench and no quality big men!!!!!

Excellent coaches tend to produce and have excellent teams.

The notion that Pop would not be successful with the Bobcats is rank speculation.

If anyone can turn a Gawd-awful team around, its likely to be a disciplinarian like Pop.

So you're blaming Ainge?  I think it's time for both to go, Along with KG and Pierce. Give me Bird and Brian Shaw and let the rebuilding begin!!

The whole concept of what team would do better with what coach is rank speculation.
