Resigning Bass- how did we do that?

Bass is playing so badly it is painful to watch.  Painful.  How did we sign a guy who even last year playing well after BBD was severely limited and undersized for our purposes?  He literally has forgotten how to shoot his open 12 footers.  This guy is making over twenty million the next three years.

Danny and Doc knew what the guy couldn't do.  So why sign him for that money? He is bench player and cannot traded now.

The real question is, why did they stop using Bass in the pick and pop where he is most effective?

Those shots have been few and far between. My point is he has been missing even them when he is open. The signing makes him virtually untradeable.

He has more motion in his shot than anyone I have ever seen.

He needs to make his body quieter when he shoots.

He needs a stint in the D-League to wake him-up! A few weeks of bus rides and Motel 6s and he will be begging DA and Doc to bring him back to Boston!

Maybe, he is useless right now.

Re: Resigning Bass- how did we do that?

how can anyone say "davis was severely limited" when davis 1) played league's best help defense 2) took about a charge a game in doing so 3) did not bobble and fumble the ball like bass does 4) can put the ball on the floor and drive 5) has post moves 6) can hit jumper 7) can effectively body mash with the strongest most dominant 7 footers in the league like bynum, duncan, howard and get them off their spots..... 8) MORE than decent passer for his 4/5 position

davis did a lot of things effectively, maybe no one single thing excellently other than the help defense.  he had his shortcomings- rebounds and leaping ability.

compare that to bass' per minute rebounding.....  in the toilet this year.  davis' PER rebounds continues to improve year to year, so he's addressing his problems in his game and bass is regressing....

but just look at bass' game....   he's not on his best day better than davis FOR THIS TEAM because bass cannot even come close to faking covering a single second at the 5 position.  never mind the fact that i have seen MANY TIMES bass blow dunks or get blocked at the rim- not much better than davis if you want to be honest about it.

since bass switched places with davis, KG has played most all the minutes at 5 whereas davis took much of that physical punishment for KG and moreover WE WON GAMES with davis in the unit that FINISHED OUT GAMES- check our record two years ago, dingbats, up until davis hurt his patellar tendon the celts were an EXTREMELY ELITE TEAM....

a level of elite that we have not yet gotten anywhere close to the last two years

The Celtics had 2 options when dealing with Bass in the offseason.

    1. Re-sign Bass and make him a trade chip during the season.

    2. Let Bass go without getting anything in return.

The #1 option was the one that made the most sense. Don't forget last season Bass was a 12 ppg and 6 rpg player. Those numbers were similar to what David West was getting.

There's no way anybody would have known Bass would turn out like this.

Also, Bass was smart. He had a very good year, that's why he opted out of his contract to get a new and bigger contract.

People always talking about how we lost our toughness when we traded Perk....We lost a heck of a defender when we traded BBD. Quick feet. Mentally, not a tough guy, but physically he loved to bang. BBD is a lot better than bass...I have been saying this since day 1.

You were not right last year, but you certainly are this year.
