    Rondo to the Pelicans?

    Per ESPN insider:

    3. The New Orleans Pelicans trade the No. 6 pick and Greivis Vasquez to the Boston Celtics for Rajon Rondo.

    Rondo

If Danny Ainge is ready to hit the reset button in Boston, it's going to have to start with gathering young pieces while he gets his long-term payroll in order. Vasquez was one of the league's most improved players and offers a pretty fair amount of the same kind of production the Celtics have gotten from Rondo over the years. Plus, he's cheap and the lottery pick could be cashed in on a much-needed big man or shooting guard.

Boston also owns the No. 16 pick. Given that the Celtics were competitive without Rondo, this deal works even if Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett end up back in Boston for another run, and it gets the Celtics under the tax line.

For the Pelicans, the idea is to accelerate the development of a very nice young roster. Rondo, Anthony Davis, a hopefully healthy Eric Gordon, Ryan Anderson and Robin Lopez is an excellent foundation. Meanwhile, Austin Rivers could be developed as a sixth man. Like Cleveland, the time for New Orleans to add veteran pieces is coming sooner than you think. Gordon is already locked up with an eight-figure per year deal, and Davis will be getting one before you know it.

    Re: Rondo to the Pelicans?

Vasquez at 6'6" is perfect to pair with Avery.

Trade KG for Bledsoe and Jordan and have Bledsoe find time at backup PG and SG.

Vasquez last season gave the 13/9 Rondo provided over his career and is making just 2 million next year before a 3m qualifying offer (basically same contract as Bradley).

At pick 6 I'd love McLemore to slip, but Zeller and Bennett would be pretty nice grabs as well (assuming we can move KG for Jordan, if not Len is an obv choice).

Linking these options more and more...lets make it happen...I want to see a totally young team go out there and compete...If we miss playoffs, we get some more pieces...

I'd do this trade in a heartbeat.  Vasquez is a good player.

If you trade Rondo, I think you look to trade Green as well. Why not shop him in Cleveland who is looking for a big deal that can bring in a legit C or SF to pair with Irving, Waiters, Thompson and Zeller. Trading Jeff would save us money, and maybe could get us that number 1 pick or a couple of their other picks and something in next years draft. Do a S&T with some of their free agents.

Not advocating a rondo trade, but this is a realistic trade worth exploring. You get a good, young,  pg whos been improving each year in vasquez to replace rondo. You could even draft another pg and big too with 6 and 16. Some combination of burke/mcw/shroeder/larkin as pg's and for center either adams/len/dieng.

Let's make this trade, keep PP and KG, trade Bass and Lee for Bargnani, then draft Zeller and Saric.

    Devin Harris with the MLE:

    Vasquez/Harris

    Bradley/Terry/Crawford

    Green/PP

    KG/Sully/Saric

    Zeller/Wilcox/??Randolph?/Melo

Vasquez plus their lottery pick for Rondo?  I don't think so.  Our pick would have to go with him.

    True.

The trade doesn't work on the ESPN trade machine because of the salaries.

Do you like the trade in principle?

Only if Victor Oladipo is still on the board @ #6....

Plus New Orleans has to throw in another piece or another #1 pick.....

Rondo cannot be traded unless someone steps up and makes an offer the Celtics can't refuse.

Throw in Austin Rivers or another #1 pick.....

Rondo IS a superstar MVP caliber player

If someone wants him, they have to step up big or go home !

None of this kinda sorta crap

This is an interesting angle but I agree with the last couple of posts that Rondo is worth more than this. Just becuase a player has the same production numbers doesn't tell the full story. Rondo is a PITA but he is an elite player. He can lay down triple doubles in playoff games...this is a very special thing.

Would Rondo still have triple doubles if he did not play with the Big 3?

Well...maybe he wouldn't be able to get 10 dimes every night without some decent shooters around. But he has greatness in him and this is extremely rare. It just doesn't come out all the time which is, of course, very frustrating for all of us.  But he is a smart kid and I think he will continue to make improvements to his jump shot and his overall consistency.

    REALLY?!?

    wow!

    MVP type player?

    OK!

    my take:

IF Pierce and KG go.......Rondo will not be far behind.

if the team goes that route this off-season (TBD) then we could doa lot worst than this deal.

Though like was stated above it doesn't work salary wise.

Finally, a trade scenario that makes some plausible sense, not a pipe dream deal...I'd do this in a heart beat because Rondo is ok if you already have a good core, but coming off an injury and with no real bigmen on the C's his talent is wasted...If the C's get this pick they have to go big...BIG...in the middle..have too...they will never be able to compete without talented help in the paint, both on O and D.

getting Alex Len or Zeller AND Vasquez for Rondo IF rebuilding this year, would make a lot of sense.

That's like asking if Stockton would have had all those assists if he didn't play with Malone. Or Magic if he didn't play with Kareem, Worthy, etc.

I wouldn't do this trade in a million years.

The trade I would do with them would be

To the Pelicans - Bass, AB, Melo and #1

To Celtics - Rivers, Ryan Anderson
