If the Celts made one more run then the Celts get nothing in return for KG and Pierce when they retire after next season or in 2015.

To be able to move 2 steps forward, the Celts had to take 1 step back.

It's not like the Celts would be fighting for even the 4th seed next season. If the Celts kept KG and Pierce, it would've been another 8th or 7th seed and another 1st round exit.

I agree, the celtics window wasn't just closed, it was starting to rot. You cut the rot away and replace with new material. This is a metaphor. Meaning We weren't getting any younger and weren't good enough to win, and wouldn't magically be good enough to win next year. There isn't a fountain of youth. It was past time to rebuild.

but somehow the Nets become better?...immediate contenders?....

Pierce and Garnett belong in Celtic green, and we definitely got worse...draft picks are a joke...

The nets have 3 younger borderline to allster players players in williams, lopez and johnson. They lacked defensive intensity which garnett can help with and having 5 scorers makes them better, yes.

Yeah, one more run - just good enough to get in the playoffs and get our tails kicked.

It was time for a change. The Nets are a contender because their additional pieces are much better than ours. That's why it was time.

You could argue it should have been blown up two years ago. This was a three year plan that becaome a six. Be glad for that and accept that rebuilding has to happen.

Ainge has his problems but identifying talent in the draft is one of his strengths. It's funny how you claim good draft picks have no value when that's how Ainge got KG and Allen in the first place.

Ainge traded half of our team for Garnett and Allen...not picks...I would rather watch us contend, and perhaps rise to the occasion, than be mediocre...you folks have forgotten what it is like to watch a crappy team for years...better to watch one more year of contention, then see Garnett and Pierce retire as Celts, thereby freeing up salary space...

One more run??? Where? To the old folks home??? It was time to cut bait and move on. Anyone with basketball sense knows that.

Sticking with the old gang for another year? We were 20-23 with the old gang before the injuries started....but it would have been interesting to see how that team would do with a quality coach and Rondo either tamed into a team player or sitting out. Too late now... I think we got more out of those guys than expected... and needed to move on to get some value trading them.. too much $$ paying them had us handcuffed

Unfortunately we lost Ray, KG & PP but for some reason, still have RR on our roster..

If DA is thinking of building the new team around this kid, we're in trouble... esp if our new coach isnt an elite...

RA had FA status and good sense while KG/PP still had some trade value so they all left.

At this  point, R9R has none of the above... so with nowhere to go and no way to get there even if he did, he's still here.

At least his chief enabler has departed... so there is a ray of sunshine peeking thru.

And when this team stinks for years, clowns like you will be screaming for his head...better late than never...only thing Ainge ever did was have KG gifted to him by McHale...

There's no guarantee that Ainge's rebuild will be successful but it's time to let go and roll the dice.

    A brilliant move by Ainge.

He created cap space, he got 3 first round picks, and if we lose this year, the 2014 draft is one of the deepest in history.

As far as Pierce and Garnett go, the old gray mare she ain't what she used to be.

    Wrong.

We gave up the #5 pick for Ray Allen. A pick we got for Jiri Welsch.

We'll never know what would have happened next year. We got to a game 7 with the Ring Winner this year with Rondo and Sully out !  I'm not too sure with them & KG & PP and if we didn't trade Terry & he performed better & maybe we got rid of Bass for a shooter like Redick, we could have contended.

Regarding getting nothing for PP & KG in a trade---for PR value, selling seats and allowing them to retire in Green, would we have a lot of salary off the books & have been able to go after a couple of choice free agents ?  Just asking ???

I'll check on that in a bit, but I doubt it...and I know for sure we gave up something like four players for KG...

That's why Ainge is the right man for the job. Nobody wanted to give Jan Volk, M.L. Carr, Dave Gavitt, Chris Wallace, and Rick Pitino any gifts.

why do you think McHale might favor trading with the Celtics ?...sorta like the Gasol trade to LA...

I 'm not a screamer and I've liked Ainge since he was a player here.

Elvis is under six feet of dirt your buried much deeper.

Liked  Ainge as a player, never have liked him as GM...

learn to punctuate and spell...two mistakes in five letters... should be 'Elvis is under six feet of dirt, you're buried much deeper'...sorta like your feeble brain...
