The Celtics Have Assembled A Deep Powerful Bench

We know who 4 out of the 5 starters are.  There will be at least 6 proven veterans coming off the bench.  The guards look like it will be Nate Robinson, Delonte West and Von Wafer.  The latter may be able to swing over to small forward some.  Approaching the Playoffs, three out of these four big men will probably come off the bench: Shaq, Perk, Big Baby and Jermaine O'neill.  Also, who knows what kind of deals could go down before Round 1.  Maybe the Celts will get a legitemate good backup small forward or somebody already on the roster will develop.  Right now the whole rotation looks mostly good.  My team, the Cavaliers probably won't go far enough.  So go BOSTON CELTICS!

Nice post "C's-Fan"......I agree with you......by the way, I think it was a shame how LaBron played his act out.....I can see wanting to pursue the championship and all....but he totally screwed Cleveland and it's fans in the way he went about his business....total lack of class....he tarnished a great reputation and is now considered a villain by the vast majority of fans....he just took over the number one spot from Kobe who at least has a fan base in his "hometown".....the King lost his fan base in Cleveland....then again....maybe he picked up the base in Miami....

I would have been okay with Lebron leaving, but he did it the wrong way.  His first game back in Cleveland, holy cripe, I just hope everything goes safely.  Some friends of mine are theorizing he might not even play that game.  Duke, thank you for helping me get my cranial wheels moving. That would make for a good title to a thread.

Re: The Celtics Have Assembled A Deep Powerful Bench

All last season we had to endure the "they're too old" mantra even on this very same forum from so-called Celtic fans. I wonder what the mantra will be this season from the negative nellies.  Will they be trotting out the "they're too old" mantra again?  I bet they will whenever the C's hit a rough spot.  Whatever the mantra, I'm sure the nay-sayers, both here and far, will come up with something.

As for a backup at small forward being a huge issue, a huge stumbling block, I think the agonizing about this is way, way overblown.  This is the GM-wannabe's mantra for the moment.

Danny Ainge had a huge off-season, really improved the team and with Delonte in place I think he placed the last piece in the puzzle on the board.

This is truly an awesome team, and the bench should not only be able to hold a lead but to extend a lead like they did in the early part of last season when the team was hitting on all cylinders.

Barring the crippling injuries of last season the C's will be contending for another title.

Nice observations CF.  I can't wait to see this Celtic team in action.

So why don't you guys hand over Jamario Moon while you're at it?  Shaq and West are here, why not really arm us to help take out Miami?

Actually, you were reading my mind.  I was thinking, the Cavaliers have Jamario Moon and Joey Graham to take the place of Lebron. The Celtics could sure use one of them.  The Cavaliers were weakened enough at that position they better hold on to what they got.

About the summer of 1986, I stayed in a large campground west of Boston.  We toured Boston, Plymouth, Salem, Marblehead, Martha's Vineyard and Wood's Hole Oceanographic.  We took in the pretty sights, cultural, historical, educational and naturally, the great food.  Cleveland has very good things too, along with a few problems.  ..........  Also, most of my family is here, so moving away would be tough.  However, if I were alone I would certainly consider moving to Boston bacause I liked the area very much.

It's a joke about the Lakers being too old. The Lakers are the team to beat. There is a window for all NBA players and no one can escape Father Time!

The critical players for L.A. are in their prime, excluding Fisher. The critical players for the Celtics are PAST THEIR PRIME! So continue to delude yourselves, keep aggregating the team age and keep lying to yourselves about how youthful the Celts are compared to the Lakers.

No kidding! It is amusing to say the least. If you take this number and add it to this one and divide by 3. Then dude tries to sell it like he really believes it. Comic relief in the doldrums of the off season.

Ray Allen is 35, Kevin Garnett is 34, and Paul Pierce is 33. The heart, and largest contribution in regards to production of the team is at the age where the decline is not only inevitable, but it tends to accelerate. All the aggregate number crunching in the world can't change the reality right in front of everyone's eyes.

As usual, lakers fans miss the point entirely.  No one said the lakers were too old.  What my thread points out is that the Celtics are NOT too old.  The lakers are the team to beat, obviously, they have won two in a row.  BUT - I for one am tired of hearing lakers "fans" come on here day after day and say how the Celtics have no chance because they are too old.
Pierce is 10 months older than koME, but has about 8000 fewer mins on his legs.
Our oldest starter is 34  - yours is 36.
We have serious depth at the 4 and 5 - JON, Perk, Shaq, Davis and KG.  You have Bynum, Odom, Gasol.................................and Ratliff!

So, again, let me say it nice and slowly for you - no one is saying the lakers are too old - people ARE saying the Celtics are, and that is incorrect.  Got it now?

He seems like a pretty nice guy.  He was a fan favorite in Cleveland.  Delonte can play both sides of the ball as well as protect it and play some point or SG.  He is, in my opinion, a "B" defender, can postup on offense, drive or spot up and shoot.  Delonte has very good quickness and agility at 6'3".  He developed his game pretty well in Cleveland.  For the most part he needs to stick to his health program and not stray off.  If he can hold it together, you got what I think is a B+ player.  You should be able to tell I'm a fan of his.

The Celtics can make changes after Dec. 15.

Getting Shaq and Delonte for the vet's minimum is like getting them for free. Danny Ainge got so much with so little to offer. I think we should judge the Celtics after the rosters are set after the February trade deadline.

I say give Marquis Daniels a chance to prove himself. Besides, it doesn't mean that if it's not the bench you wanted it will not produce wins.

Okay guys, fundamentally I get it, but hear me out for a second:

    Why is Daniels at 6'6" a "3", while Wafer at 6'5" a "2"?

Why can't we play both Daniels and Wafer at the 3, and keep West and Bradley at the 2?  Maybe that is the idea.  Rame says we have 5 SG's and 1 SF on our bench, but will an inch really make that much difference?  "Hey Von, there's LeBron.  You want a contract next year, go and cover him!"

Delonte can play both, and can play D - we could also use RA periodically at the 3. I mean, if PP plays 35 mins per game, don't we think RA, MD and VW can make up the difference?  Me?  I'm excited as heck about this year!!

I agree. Definitely Delonte will be the backup SG while Wafer and Daniels will have to battle it out for the backup SF spot.

This may be our best team in the last three years.  Danny may not be finished but if things jell don't look for him to do more.  It is mainly now up to Doc and the players to make it or break it.
