they wont be getting and star players out of the draft thats for sure. the celtics have to either come up with a steal of a trade or sign a star free agent. otherwise we are looking at more of the post bird years up until the big three came along. why they are trying to win so badly is beyond me. they are going to get swept in the first round and end up with a stiff draft pick. the knicks are tanking because they realize you need star players like the first couple of guys in next years draft to win championships.
The Knicks don't have a 1st round pick.

So even if they tank, they're not going to get a star player in the draft because they have no pick.
Unless they trade a top asset for a 1st round pick to a team in the EC ... Haha!

No it isn't ... worse case you have to add a late 2014 ist rounder or a second round pick next year. Hawes is an expiring contract (UFA) and Turner has an extravagant RFA QO to be picked up that Philly doesn't want to touch. Any cap space savers and picks is all they're looking for ... they don't want players back with multi-year contracts.

The Red Sox dumped Crawford, Gonzalez and Beckett to clear bad contracts and rebuilt with less than Superstar ballplayers yet had enough chemistry to go from worse to first.

Danny can do nearly the same thing ... Getting Hawes gives him time to develop a young center or bid on a FA center in a few years ... Rome wasn't built in a day. There needs to be transition players added for the interim until the final pieces can be had. This is a good means to an end.

There must be really something wrong with you.

    Red Sox and Celtics comparison?

Baseball and basketball are very different.

You keep saying I'm just a history buff, but you post something like Rome wasn't built in a day.

So from the Celts' track record of signing big name free-agents, the only big name free-agent the Celts signed, since the inception of the salary cap, was a 35-year old Dominique Wilkins.

Why would big name free-agents come to Boston when there are racists like you!

With Euro-Asian trash like you as a fan I can see your point!

The C's maynot have a good record of signing FA's but they do have a good record of trading for other team's Allstar players .... need I post the names again?

Ed MacCauley for 1st Rd Draft Pk (Bill Russell)

    Chief & McHale

    DJ

    Allen

    KG

    Bill Walton for Maxwell

2007 1st rd pk for Rondo

    Horse trading ....

Celts got Ray Allen for the #5 pick of the 2007 Draft.

KG was traded for Big Al, the #6 pick and #28 pick of the 2009 Draft.

Rondo was traded for a 2007 1st round pick, 24th pick.

Don't include what Red Auerbach has done because Red is already dead.

    Notice Ainge's moves?

Every single move Ainge made involved the Celts trading a lottery pick or a 1st round pick.

Without those lottery picks, no Ray and no KG.

Again, championships are won in the draft.

Even a woman in an elevator will tell you that.
So you don't need to tank to keep the draft pick cause you'll be trading it for an NBA ready player anyway. But you keep singing to the hills like Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music that we need Parker or Wiggins ??? Now you're saying the lottery pick will be trade fodder?

C'mon, what's it gonna be boy ... yes or no?  The C's can flip other picks into a higher pick if they end up in the 8th position anyway if they want to trade up to flip that pick for some other teams player. We don't need to tank to accomplish that task. It will just cost us an extra asset (pick) to get there. Bottom line, we've historically gotten the player we want/need not by keeping picks but by trading them ... GET ONBOARD!!!

Re: Trade is our way back in18 months

With all of the picks the C's have they can easily get a star player via:

    1) simply taking the player in the draft.  How many 8-10th picks are stars.  While this is a possibility, it is far from a given.  There are not many pierce's walking through that door.  This is the slimmest chance

    2) trade multiple picks to move up in the draft.  No reason an 8th or 10th and a future 1st can't get you into the top 5.  This is pretty easily done.

    3) Trade players and picks to get a player on the cusp, or getting long in the tooth.(see Ray Allen and KG).  I certainly think the 8th or 10th pick, Green, and Hump would get you almost anyone in the NBA not named Lebron or KD.

    4) Use picks and the trade exception to pick up a player as a salary dump that also includes a star.  Heck, throw in Hump and we can take on a Wallace type player and a heck of a player in addition.
