BC Alums Need To Wake Up

Right now BC would have a hard time competing in the MAC or Conference USA in basketball and football.  The reasons for the horrific downfall are well known and well understood.  There has been significant mismanagement by BC's Athletic Department and those within the University responsible for its oversight.  Millions of dollars are being paid by the University to fund rich salaries and benefits for BC Athletic Department personnel who are falling woefully short of meeting reasonable expectations attendant to such compensation levels.  The alumni are literally screaming for change and are being completely ignored.

Unfortunately, the alums have ONE and only one option under these sad circumstances to make University administration LISTEN - STOP GIVING MONEY TO BC AND LET THEM KNOW WHY.  It is the only thing they understand and yes it has other very negative impacts - but sadly NOTHING will happen until you close the wallet and say why. If the school gets the message and takes appropriate action - then it will be equally important to resume previous donation levels.

If the alums supportive of athletics at the ACC level turn out to be in the minority - then I'd rather see BC withdraw from the ACC rather than further demoralize student athletes and fans.  In such event all of BC's efforts should be focused on its academic mission and it should emulate schools like Emory and Chicago rather than the few academic powerhouses who effectively compete in major sports.  At some point BC needs to establish an identity as right now its identity is more akin to "ever to be confused" rather than "ever to excel".

I agree with many of your points Fuko.  I'm not ready to pronounce the administrations a failure, but there have been some mistakes particularly related to football.  GDF is well entrenched at BC, in the ACC and the NCAA, but does seem to have reached his peter point awhile ago in terms of where he's bringing the program.

"then I'd rather see BC withdraw from the ACC rather than further demoralize student athletes and fans."

I'm not demoralized that the BC football team missed their first bowl game since 1999. The Eagles women's soccer program finished ranked 13th, Women's Field Hockey ranked 19th, Men's soccer finished 6th, Lacrosse ended up ranked 13th and Jerry York has his team a threat to win the Frozen Four every year.

I don't think the parents of kids whom are playing in these BC programs are demoralized and want their children to go to another college athletic department.  Boston College finished ranked 2nd in the country in student-athlete Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in all sports among FBS schools.

The football team would struggle in the MAC conference????? Really?  Really?
BC would win the MAC with ease most years. This season they will win 8,or 9 games, and be in a major bowl game. They had ONE bad seson. Please get serious

ACC has looked horrible in the little boy Bowls which BC is not a part of this season as it sucked  at 4-8. With the exception of Florida State, playing another Catholic University fraud, where there are many in the Catholic system, the ACC is stinking up the pack and could bottom out as the worst. Please in the future think before you post  .....

Ha Ha Ha      You don't know football, do you?  Ohio? Toledo? These are high school teams.... You're telling me that because the MAC conference won more bowl games than the ACC, they are better???? Did they play the ANY team that was a top-tier program?   The MAC stinks and they plat BAD teams in low/level/NO ONE watches pizza/toilet bowl games...  BC had it's worst team in HISTORY and would have done well in the MAC. They have 20 returning starters, they would be undefeated in the MAC 2012!..  You're chart was impressive, but useless

Please cite your research sources.  It's a nice chart well beyond your grammar level, so why not credit the source rather than steal from it?

Typical Boston response, huge overreaction.  BC football and hoops have had a very nice 10 year run.  Now that they've both had a season or so of bad we should leave the ACC?

Same morons who wanted to run Rondo, Lester and Pedrioa out of town because they weren't playing at a Hall of Fame level immediately.

    1. You're right, it could be considered a deflection, though writers do need to verify their facts and sources, so it's a reasonable question especially of this basement dweller.
    2. It's not an excuse, I've never made an excuse for the program.  It's down right now, I expect it to improve soon.
    3.  You've become just another bitter and angry basher who enjoys any BC loss so congratulations on becoming as useful a participant as the troll-entity.  I do hope you have a Uconn forum to post in where you can revel without any alternate viewpoints.
