Maybe the Maine Red Claws, but this guy stunk out the joint in 2010-2011 season. Selected the wrong school, if he was a bench warmer, and that's all he'd be at UCONN, he could get Jim Calhoun's blessing. At BC, well look at what they accomplished? That's right nothing with his turkey on board! NBA give me a break!

RJ is a sick athlete, this is obvious.  however his basketball fundamental level is no where close to being NBA ready.  He needs another year of college.  If he gets drafted in the mid to high first round, then more power to him as the $$$ will make it the smart move and the mistake will be with the team that takes him.  If he's a low 1st rounder and doesn't come back to BC he's made a mistake.  His is not ready for the next level, not even close.

Jackson's situation on declaring early brings to mind Hashem Thabeet of UConn a couple of years ago. To every UConn fan it was incredibly obvious he was not even close to being ready for the NBA. The extra year in college would have made a major difference.
Unfortunately, with family & friends continually bugging him to go for the money, he did. The result was obvious that it was a huge mistake, which did not surprise anyone. Hopefully, Jackson will be realistic and stay in school.

Stinks of troy bell's declaration "I'm ready now" statement when asked about playing at the next level (I think when he was a junior).  How did that career work out for you Troy.  Professional boxing if I recall was the next (and quick) calling after the NBA didn't work out.

Reggie, you cannot lead your team past Northwestern and you think you are ready?  Ridiculous.  Best to give Troy a call to work on boxing for back-up.

Gene and Steve, doing a heck of a job there at BC these days. Pathetic.  I miss players like Dudley and Smith who actually looked like they gave a &%^ chasing balls, setting picks, getting rebounds, etc. The performance against Northwestern was pitiful with BC players standing around like they couldn't wait for the season to end.

Well, folks, let's take a look.

Now, not only are we sinking in football, but basketball has descended at an even faster rate.

Flippo and Dear Leader have brought us a firing which cost $3.3 million, a new coach who can't find a set starting lineup all season; who wound up starting a walk-on; who was regularly out-coached, particularly vs NW; who brought attendance down with his horrid product; and now who can't keep the best player we've had since Troy Bell (BOTH of whom were recruited by Coach Skinner).

Wow, things are looking up in Eagleland - especially for our opponents.

But keep on believing, members of Uber Alles nation.

    Peace.

    okay

one more time attendance improved this year from last even with one less regular season home game; once you post the details of the turnover at the faculty and admin level by postion and actual numbers over 13 years I will put the comparative details of attendance from this year to last year up

    How about it?

By the way how was the sophmore class that Al recruited this year?

Why not some criticism of SD's first years at Cornell record?  That horse dead enough for you?

And of course Reggie is not doing anything that is not unheard of in other college programs. Rose, Wall et.al.  You know the economic circumstances many of these kids come from; for you to use that to condemn SD is even below your abysmal standards

and nothing about the Big East minutes that thorougly disprove your contention that Leahy lied?

I think Cheerio is pretty reflective of many Uconn fans.  Here they are, the Uconn men's BB team is playing in the NC game on Monday; yet here he is on a Boston Globe thread about BC.  In fact, he seems to spend a lot of time here preoccupied with BC.

Indeed, his participation on these boards is quite reflective of the massive inferiority complex many Uconn fans have towards BC.  In some ways, this is understandable. Uconn is a very good school.  Boston College, however, is considered by many to be a superior academic institution which has far more cachet than Uconn.  Does Uconn get 35,000 applications a a year for 2200 freshman spots?

BC plays in a superior football conference (and make no mistake, the ACC IS a superior FB conference compared to the BEFC).  (Hey LP, remind me again how many BE FB teams last year finished in the Top 25?)

BC plays at the highest level for all THREE major New England sports.  It has the best hockey program in the country, let alone New England.  It has a very good FB program that competes ever year for the ACC Championship and a Top 25 ranking.  Its basketball program has been good but has stumbled a bit in recent years.  It clearly lags behind Uconn at the moment.  However, now that the ship in BB has finally been righted, BC will challenge Uconn in BB in the future.    Uconn has a coach who will be retiring soon.  From what has been reported, the Uconn admins. are not pleased about the embarrassing men's BB graduation rate, nor are they happy about the recruiting issues/NCAA sanctions.   BC has a young and dynamic coach who will build a very good program.  Bottom line, the scales will be more even in men's BB going forward.  That's what our Uconn friend here knows and fears.  That's why he spends so much time here bashing BC.

The next few years will certainly be interesting.

    Delusions, mes amis.

Where is the proof of attendance?

Reggie Jackson does not come from poverty. He is the son of an Air Force Dad, and spent his life moving from assignment to assignment with an intact family.

ACC superior in football? In your dreams.

BC a superior school? Yes, to those insecure enough to think it better than any other. It's OK, overpriced, fraudulent in its claim to Catholicity, treats its alumni like children, turns a deaf ear to middle class financial need, has acquired a rep for untruth since it changed administrations in 1996, and is a falling entity in football, basketball, athletic administration and its presidency.

Other than that, why it's top notch.

UConn is a fine school, with a hoops program (both sexes) that our alma mater can only dream of.

And, oh yeah: THEY are playing for the National Championship tomorrow night.

Leahy did not lie re the departure from the Big East?

Betcha also think JFK won the 1960 election lawfully.

    Peace.

LP even if every single person in the state of Illinois had voted for Richard Nixon, John Kennedy would have won the Presidency. Ever heard of the electoral college?  While there probably was some funny business going on in Cook County, JFK had enough votes in the electoral college to be elected President.

As to the non-Catholic nature of BC...I am torn between feeling sickened or overcome with laughter.  Obviously you did not attend the Laetare Sunday event at Conte today. I would have paid money to see you state your opinion that BC is not "Catholic" to Fr. Leahy, Monan, Fr. Himes and the many other religious and non-religious who celebrated the mass today.

You are sick and demented man. Please seek medical help for your condition.

LP, by what criteria is the Big East superior to the ACC in football? Not one Big East team was ranked while three ACC teams were. By what other criteria can you judge?

I also see you have ignored by data in the other thread about alumni giving. What is your interpretation of that data? Every Jesuit school in America has apathetic alumni who hate the current administration? Or just BC? The vast majority of colleges have apathetic alumni who hate the current adminstration? Or Just BC?

    You are a complete joke.

Take heart, momort.  LP has destroyed whatever credibility he might have had (if he ever had it) a long time ago.  His recent post is a case in point.

He was the one who brought up the attendance.  You destroyed his argument by showing the official attendance figures for this year compared to last.

He was the one who cited BC's alumni giving rate as a sign that "no one cares for the place."  A lot of us, including myself, destroyed his argument by showing the official alumni giving rates of other schools - facts which showed that BC was right in the middle of the Top 50 alumni giving rates and was ahead of or virtually the  same as many other schools - including Georgetown, GT, et al.

He was the one who cited that "BE BB was thriving" compared to the ACC by citing how many BE teams were in the Top 25 compared to the ACC. I agreed with his comment and cited HIS logic to support ACC FB supremacy over the BE.  After all, this past year FOUR ACC teams finished in the Top 25 compared to ZERO teams from the Big East.  Now, of course, he forgets he ever made such an argument.  Again - more hypocrisy.

And yes, BC IS a superior academic school in the eyes of many.  Just refer to the USN&WR which is the survey that these schools all use - including Uconn - to advertise their academic pedigree.  I invite PL to access the 2010 survey and go down the list of National Universities, pick out where BC falls...now continue further down the list to see where Uconn falls.  Again - his argument destroyed.

One interesting thing about LP.  He slams BC for every small thing he can imagine.  Yet in his praise for Uconn, he is very willing to forget some serious and embarrassing developments regarding the men's BB program - the major NCAA sanctions that were levied against them just a couple of months ago, their horrific graduuation rate, the embarrassing story in both the Globe and NYT this weekend.  One only wonders what he would be saying if these stories were being written about BC this year.  Methinks he would not be turning a blind eye to them as he has done for Uconn.

If that isn't enough, he sadly makes an idiot out of himself with his claim that the JFK election was "not lawful."  Perhaps LP needs a good political science course to better understand how the US electoral system works.

To sum it up, LP has made...and continues to make... a class A fool of himself on these boards.  Sad really.
